Default Required to use Paddle Shifters?

I just purchased a new 2018 F Type base model with 380 hp, and am wondering if there is any mode where I am REQUIRED to use the paddle shifter?

Put differently, can I have the car in both Sport and Dynamic mode and NOT use the paddle shifters?

What is the overall impact of engaging the Dynamic setting and Sport mode simultaneously? Should I use them together or separately? Anything I should NOT do in this respect?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Look forward to participating in this forum.

You can in fact be in dynamic mode, and sport mode and not use paddles. If you do use paddles, you can engage and hold the right paddle for a couple seconds for it to go into sport automatic.

Use the modes together, more fun that way. To each his own anyway.

Congrats on the car.

You can configure car to use either paddles or auto in normal mode and sport mode or set to use paddles/ auto in sport only

If I remember correctly

Sport mode you can leave in manual or use paddles if you stop using paddles it will auto change

In dynamic mode with sport engaged if you use paddles you must hold right paddle to revert back to auto change

Thought the base had 340 HP? Anyways, just remember if you start using paddle shifters, you'll want to consider doing so until you go back to auto-mode. Otherwise you will find yourself unnecessarily revving the engine as it is waiting for you to shift manually. As others mentioned, once in paddle shift mode, just hold the right one for 3 seconds and the car will go back to auto shifting mode. They make it mostly idiot proof, so don't be afraid to practice with it.

Hi, in mine it is the other way around - in dynamic it will switch back to full auto, but in sport (or sport + dynamic) it wont

You can also shift back to auto mode by clicking the shifter back from sport mode to regular "drive" mode.

If you are in dynamic and use paddles to change up or down it will still change up if you are at high revs and haven't changed.
Similarly will always change down when necessary as you slow down.

I believe in sport it will rev to limiter without changing up, but will alert you to need to change by gear number in display changing colour or having white border, if you haven't noticed the exhaust note at 6000rpm !

My base is a de-tuned 340p, 2016 model year. I know they keep freaking changing everything, but I would assume the 2019 base is still 340hp? I'm not confident of course, so don't quote me. =)

This is my first Jag, so you all are much more knowledgeable than me on these issues, but my car is a MY18 Conv with a 380 hp 3.0V6, automatic. Indus Silver with black rag top, performance seats, 20” split spoke dark grey wheels, premium leather, climate 2, adaptive dynamics, limited slip differential, etc. It’s not the S, though. So I assumed just the base with options.

Flat out beautiful and generates sounds unlike any I’ve heard before. If I could sleep in it, I would.
