Question Restricted Performance, then gone.

Randomly got a Restricted Performance with the red triangle message pop up as I was going about 40. Drove the car for less than a mile until I could pull into a parking lot, but the whole time it was shaking pretty rough, RPM wasn't going above 1.5K maybe 2K and wouldn't go above 20mph. The exhaust sounded like it was soft misfires, almost as if my car was cammed? Just overall very rough, and worse when I parked it and left it on idle.

Turned the car off for 5-10 min, turned it back on and the error was gone. No more red triangle, never got a check engine light. Nothing. The ride home felt a little sluggish or just heavier, it wouldn't pick up as quick as I'm used to but no messages.

I had just got back from a 2.5hr mini roadtrip yesterday and did an oil change the day before. No leaks, no white smoke out the exhaust, nothing while idling or off.

Anyone experience anything similar? I've researched a bit on it and could only point to possible air leaks or the supercharger bypass actuator. But these usually reveal engine codes, so im not sure how to go about this.

Thanks for any input!

We always recommend completely charging the battery, to eliminate that as a possibility. If your car still has the original battery, it’s due to be replaced.

Make sure the supercharger belt is still in place.

Did you accidentally overfill the oil?

The battery is about a year old, I'll try to charge it just incase tho.
Just checked the supercharger belt and looks good.

Oil level is showing to be okay, right at max line when I first checked and second time was 1 line below the max.

I had that happen with "old" gas. Probably in the tank 4 months, while in winter storage. A visit to the 91 Octane pump took care of it. These cars are incredibly sensitive to their gas and their battery charge level.

Just put the highest octane you can get. Alway use 98 here in Australia. Saving 5 cents per litre using lower fuel is false economy really.

I had just put gas before my small roadtrip so it wasn't old in my case, maybe just bad gas?
Anyhow, took it out for a drive today and it seemed normal again still with no check engine light or warnings. Filled up from half tank to full of 93 octane just incase.

Car does seem to run a little more quiet tho, not as loud of pops and bangs.

No. Mine has run on 91 octane for years with no issues at all - but make sure that you are using a “top tier” fuel with cleaning additives.

No 98 here in US. Different octane rating system. Unless you are using jet fuel!!

98 RON in Oz is equivalent to 93 AKI in the good ol' US of A!
I use nothing but 98 RON in my F-Type.

Always get gas at a busy gas station, what happens moisture is collected in the underground tank ,then it goes in your car ,use gumout every 2 fills, my brother use to deliver the tanks and release the moisture before filling the tank ,but he says he can only get 70%, from non busy stations ,

Because I have the VAP Stage 1 tune, I run 93 AKI octane from Top Tier stations only (unless there is no alternative).

Here in Wisconsin we have 91 Octane NO ethanol, which is what I run in my cars (VW Golf, the 69 E and the 2017 F) and the old Hercules 6 in my wood boat. I also use it in my small engine tools, like weed whacker and leaf blower. From time to time I put a bottle of that Redline engine cleaner in the cars, and a bit in the small engines, too. I would put the best gas you can afford in the F and no ethanol if possible.

Just wanted to give a quick update.

Thankfully the car hasn't had the message pop up again after a few hundred miles and has been running fine. Except that it feels slightly underpowered and the pops and bangs are drastically reduced. Maybe my cats are gone and just isn't throwing an engine light?
