Default Shifting Manually

Can you damage the engine or transmission by (accidentally) over revving/bouncing off rev limiter when you are in Sport/Dynamic/Manual? Thanks.

Assuming you have an automatic transmission, you cannot over rev the engine. Regarding bouncing off the rev limiter, as long as you are not holding it there for an extended period of time, you will not do damage on an otherwise broken-in engine. It is not ideal to hit the rev-limiter, but the limiter is there to protect the engine and prevent damage. No-harm no-foul hitting it every once and a while (we all have done it).

To expand a bit: if downshifting would result in an over-rev condition, it won't downshift. It will also upshift automatically as you're slowing down, if not doing so would result in the revs dropping too low, and possibly stalling.

Yes, I have an Auto. Driving last night and got on it, but forgot I was in Manual, I know I'm an idiot, and was bouncing off rev limiter several times before I realized it. I had that, "are you kidding me" feeling immediately after doing it. Thanks for the help.

I think we all have done that. Also, if you're new to the car, you'll find that when the gas pedal is pressed all the way down into the button and you're in manual mode, it wont upshift and you'll hit the rev limiter. Sad!
