Short Shifter, Anyone?
#addictive32, I'll try to contact you.
@Glycerine , @BONESTOCK ,
I have one shortshifter ready to ship, and two more cores ready to go to the machine shop. PM me if still interested.
@Glycerine , you may need to post 4 more times before you can PM me.

I know we've a BUNCH of photos in this thread, but you know what I rabbit holed...
You can not find a single simple picture of the OEM stick shifter itself. It's obvious what is OEM and what is a short shifter...
But boy the internet could use a perfect side by side. Unhingd told me to take a photo, even!
Well... in the swap of my 2016 to 2019, they had moved tires from my old car, reinstalled the short shifter, got a new steering wheel, etc...
They never changed it, I trusted 'em, never thought about it, always felt "this throw feels longer???" but also, "they did install it, so who am I??".
Then I found the damned short shifter in bag of stuff. They never did it.
I've always known I'm stupid and happily live my best life, but this is a delightful reminder of just *how* stupid.
But a fun simple mod yet again, here we go. =)

My first F-Type was a 2016 manual, build date 1/16 (among the last of the 2016's), and after a year, I added the short shift mod. Big difference!
In 2020 I bought a 2017 manual, build date 4/16. The shift throw seemed a bit shorter. Not as short as the mod, but shorter than I remembered the 2016 being, and it didn't bother me like the 2016 factory shifter did. Not ideal, but not bad at all, and not distracting, to me at least. (I also searched the forums and didn't surface any reference to a shift throw change for the 2017 model year.) Anyway, I put off installing the short shift. Then later in 2020, Unhinged and I were at an event and I asked if he knew about a 2017 shift throw change. He didn't, but measured my 2017 as being about 3/8 or 1/2" shorter (don't remember exactly) than 2016 models. Enough to make a difference.
Your experience sounds similar. You knew there was a difference, but not big enough to be blatantly obvious.

With my original shifter I found it a little too easy to turn on the emergency flashers downshifting to 3rd. As I recall, when Lance was doing the R&D for the short shifter he measured his JCW Mini with short-shifter and I gave him measurements from a 1st generation Miata 5-speed. Shifter throw and effort got a lot of attention on the Miata design and it shows. I think he sort of split the difference, and I like the results. It's how it should have been from the factory: so much so that I had forgotten that I had made the modification.
I will admit, I've never hit the hazards in my 2019, even as a long arm big dude. Interesting point, for sure.
Occam's Razor! Makes the most sense. Cheers.
