Did I make this up, or is it a fact that Jag will do a custom color for a hefty fee (like 10K)?
I've read that Jag has a bespoke department, which I assume would include custom color choice, but it sounded a lot more involved than just color. Such as customizing the exterior, interior, etc.
Porsche has a paint-to-sample ability where you can provide a color sample and they'll do their best to match it, but they still have to approve the color (nothing too wild or outrageous I guess) and I think it's about $6k extra.
To have something truly unique that came from the factory that way (and not repainted aftermarket) would be cool. I could definitely see spending about that much on a personalized color choice that came from the factory.
Viper has a pretty interesting thing going on now with their 1 of 1 package. Basically every Viper sold can be of any configuration and color scheme that you like. Once made, no one else can get that exact configuration. Pretty cool program that I wish more lower volume production car companies would offer.
I have seen on several occasions, a gloss yellow F-type roaming the streets of Los Angeles, most likely a wrap. On the first wrap shown, what's the point of putting the chrome wrap on the bumpers and then leaving the silver wheels right up against them. The combination looks awful.

I've heard that as well, but not sure on the price. My guess a truly custom color might run that much. If you ordered a prior year color like Kyanite Blue it should run quite a bit cheaper.

Personally - and when all is said and done - I don't think $10,000 seems hefty or all that unreasonable to have Jaguar [read = factory] custom paint an F-Type. I don't see the need for it, but $10,000 doesn't sound all that bad to me.
A good wrap is around $3,400. I've seen the Tron wrap in person and it looks good on cars with sharp angles and lines. I think the flowing lines on our cars would be problematic. I'd have them do a rendering first (agree our wrapped cars look better than most of these though I did like the satin black, and didn't hate the gold or the flag). My wrap was $4,200 but that is because it was dual layer making it look more like paint.
Where did you get your wrap done? I'm considering doing a wrap at some point... or at least doing a CF wrap for some parts of the car.
I've seen photos of the tron wrap on a few different cars, but I don't think I would do it. It could be fun for a short time though.
enderle, any other recommendations for bay area wrap? I don't need top quality, something decent at very good/cheap price. Just picked up a used Mini to haul the puppy around, thinking about wrapping it in white to match the F-Type.

For custom factory, that seems reasonable. A top notch paint job can be $10K! Think about trying to paint the engine bay, door seams, etc.

For my Audi I used California Wheels, they're doing our FX-35 as well. Still nice work but less expensive. (I should point out that the Freemont folks are a bit more pricey now they quoted $5,200 for the FX, California Wheels was $3,300).

I checked them out and don't even see wraps listed on their list of services. I only see tinting.
Yeah, I contacted the folks at Vinyl Ink and though I'm only looking for a few pieces to be done, they are quoting 1-2 days and close to $1,500.... seems a bit high when I can get the whole car wrapped for about 2-4x that, and I'd expect that could be done in less than a day.
I may be better off just looking for aftermarket CF pieces and installing myself.
Here's a stunning example of what can be done by polishing aluminum. No wrap or paint here, just bare metal, but, of course, doing this takes 1000s of hours.

The recently expanded into wraps. Though I think they sub it out. Let me know how it goes.
