Default special order change?

Hello, how hard is it to change a special order after it has already been placed? My f-type isn't scheduled for delivery for another 10 weeks so I'm guessing it's going to be a few weeks before they even start to build it.

Technically, the dealer could say "too bad, so sad." That would be the worst case scenario. I was wondering if you had any experience with this and if so then what is typically the cutoff time to make changes to your order? For example, is it generally fairly easy to change your order up to 6 weeks before delivery is due?

Didn't the dealer give you a build confirmation from JLR and the cutoff date to make changes?

Not sure what you mean by "build confirmation"? The dealer told me that Jaguar doesn't have "online tracking." The dealer didn't provide a cutoff date to make changes. He probably didn't want the potential hassle. However, based on what you're saying, it sounds like Jaguar does provide that option.

Can I call Jaguar directly to find out my "build confirmation" and cutoff date to make changes? Or will I need to go through the dealer to get that info?

Build Confirmation is an online document that the dealer receives after placing the order.
My dealer sent it to me and it has all the dates on when the car's production is supposed to begin and when is the last date to change the order.

We can't track the order status but I think the dealers can.

Talk to your dealer and he should be able to provide you with more info.

Thanks Rahul - What was your order date, lead time for delivery and latest change date? Based on your info, that should give me a general idea if I'm in the green zone before I go talk to my dealer.

Jaguar operates on 'just in time' parts delivery from their suppliers to the production line. To do this, they will start scheduling parts at completion of vehicle order from the dealership.

If you want to make a spec change, don't waste any time in getting straight back on to your dealer. The sooner you do it, the more chance of being able to make a change.

My order allocation became available March 21st. I was given until April 11 to make changes before the system locked it.

My order was placed on 04/07 and I was given a delivery date of 07/22. Based on these dates, does it seem like I could add a moonroof if my request was submitted today?

IF mine is standard for the order-system, I had 21 days. You're past that a bit. The order-system provided the lockout date to my dealer immediately when the order was submitted. Your dealer should be able to tell you very quickly if you call them.

Thanks ungineer - but was 21 days based on a delivery date that was 3.5 months out?

There's only one way to get an answer to this, call the dealer and ask them.

I have found that if your dealer is being uncooperative ask to contact the "Market Manager" for your area by calling Jaguar in New Jersey and tell them of your issue. do this ASAP!

The manager told me that I missed the cutoff date by 1 day. I told him that I didn't want the car without a moonroof and that 1 option would be that I would forfeit my deposit and order another car. He told me to give him until Monday to see what he could do. I'll let you know what happens.

Let us know how it goes.
Did you say that you would order elsewhere?

I tried to add the carbon ceramic brake package to mine past the change date and they couldn't accomodate. Seems that their just-in-time inventory system is lean indeed.

After driving mine around for a week with the panoramic roof, I encourage you to push hard for the option, it gives the interior a completely feel. Good luck!

@Norri - I didn't tell the manager that I would order elsewhere. I want to give them a chance to accommodate me first. But I do have a great backup dealer that I will use if it comes to that.

@ftypegtr - I've had sunroofs and convertibles in the past which made no difference to me so I had no qualms about ordering my ftype without a moonroof. However, after sitting in an ftype coupe I thought it felt a tad claustrophobic. And it was the first time I experienced a *panoramic* moonroof which was pretty amazing. And I think it will be a huge benefit to let in some extra light on overcast Seattle days.

I've described the panoramic moonroof to others as a "must have" for the f-type coupe. Worst case scenario is that I refuse the car and forfeit my $5k deposit. I don't have a problem with that. I can just chalk it up as one of those $5k mistakes in life and move on. The panoramic moonroof (and black pack) will totally be worth it.

There is a point where an order is no longer amendable. If you are beyond that point the Market Managers hands are tied.

I gave the dealer a $5k deposit but I didn't sign a loan app so I think that legally I can walk away from the sale if I have to. I think that's the point of the deposit?

A loan application has nothing to do with an order. If they built this car for you, you may own it or possibly face the loss of your deposit. Lets hope it is still amendable.

I'm willing to lose the deposit and chalk it up as a $5k mistake. Seems like an ok deal from the dealer's perspective - $5k free money.
