Default Stainless vs Aluminum Pros & Cons

I have the Velocity tune on my V6s and considering the lower pulley. As you know there are 2 out there, one stainless & one aluminum. Other than the weight & price what are the pros & cons of each? Obviously the stainless is stronger but is that really an issue since the stock one is aluminum?

Aluminum only has a thin later of anodizing keeping the belt from eroding it. That is offset by the weight savings. Lighter rotational mass equals better acceleration.

The aluminum one is a little over a pound and the stainless is 7 lbs. The lower rotational weight might allow freer engine revving, which is of benefit with the MT for faster shifting. The heavier stainless pulley may reduce vibration transmitted through the belt to the SC. At the end of the day, both the VAP (stainless) and the Eurotoys (aluminum) pulleys are good products with the same diameter (+18mm). Any of the other crank pulleys out there are only +10mm.

Really comes down to if you want a few extra horsepower or a little more piece of mind on the reliability side. No wrong answer.

We have been making hard anodized Jaguar pulleys since 2002, starting with the 4.0, then the 4.2. We have been making the 5.0 crank pulleys for 6 years now, most are in the Middle East countries, no problems ever.

And just to be clear, the stainless one is not seven times heavier - the stock one is I believe around 4lbs...

I went with the stainless one (already had the VAP tune), for an auto transmission and once I get the dealer issues dusted off, I will make off to my performance shop and have them install it (thanks to fellow member clear write up!) and report back...

Also, the OEM upper pulley is anodized aluminum and the OEM lower crank pulley is aluminum and not even anodized. Abrasion is just not an issue.

The OEM pulley is 2.5 lbs, Eurotoys pulley is about half that.
