It is funny how "passionate" people are about oil....I have never seen an "OIL" thread sit idle on ANY forum (Porsche, BMW, Jaguar, Wrangler, etc.). The psychology behind it would be worth a study by the experts

Especially considering how few miles are typically driven between changes.

Well I learned from this thread that for some strange reason Jaguar went BACK to the old oil level dipstick in the 4 cylinder engines!
I wonder what was behind that decision?

4-potters aren't worthy of the sophisticated tech!

Yes, thy do not pay enough to warrant such sophisticated tech.

You should see how passionate they are on performance boating forums where guys are changing oil every 20 to 30 hours of run time due to moisture intrusion. Whoever owns Blackstone must be a very wealthy person. I know guys who test every single oil change without exception. Surprisingly there is a huge contingent that still prefers dinosaur oil over synthetic due to the frequency of change. I am in that camp also, each of my engines hold 11 quarts, times that by 2 engines, the cost of synthetic plus the fact that you change it long before any extended wear protection can be realized makes it a giant waste of money.
My personal belief is that all the special wear additives only matters if you are running for the full change intervals. If your changing earlier and using high quality oil of the correct viscosity the special wear formula is not needed. Having said all that, for my Jag I use the JLR spec, only because I want the ability to go longer on the oil change if I needed to. I don’t ever plan to go longer than 2500 miles but if circumstances came up that I needed to, I always have the option.

I used to change the oil on our Cummins 6 liter (Selene 47) annually, typically at about 100 hours.
When we cruised to the Bahamas for 6 months, I checked with Cummins, they said every 250 hours was fine.
I used dino oil as well. These were not finely tuned machines but real workhorses turning at low rpm and good for several thousand hours..

Piloting Nitro Harleys and Fuel Altereds in the past, The technology of Syn Oils was at first questionable because of so much good cylinder lubrication and high compression/expansion the rings had difficulties sealing at times. Often we "windowed" the blocks and contended with fire in the facemask! That was quickly solved....although our engines were good for 10 to 15 runs only....and 20 gals. of NITRO per mile!!! Oil changes were every 1/4 mi. Thanks for letting me ramble on.

On closer examination, but you have to really squint to see it, that ad is for GF-5, not GF-6A.
THIS ad is for GF-6A: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/36347264...oAAOSwvEFffq91 (of course only from the UK with mucho postage!).
The moral of the story is you need to double check that you really are getting/ordering/buying GF-6A and not GF-5 as very often they look identical and the only ILSAC detail is a crappy pic of the front of the bottle. I was caught out this way when I first bought 2 x 5 litre bottles of Penrite 0W-20 GF-6A from my local auto parts store, they were the last two bottles on the shelf so I grabbed them and ran and when I checked them a couple of days later I spotted that one of them was in fact GF-5! Luckily for me when I took that bottle back to the shop that had more GF-6A in store and swapped bottles with no argument.
ILSAC GF-6A Liqui Moly Special Tec AA available here for us Aussies: https://automotivesuperstore.com.au/liqui-moly-6739

$84 for 5 litres isn't too bad. Automotive Super Store also regularly have sales.

Liqui Moly Top Tec 6600 (SKU: 21411) meets BOTH ILSAC GF-6A and STJLR.03.5006: https://www.liquimoly.com.au/21411-top-tec-6600-0w-20

Can't find anywhere in Aus that stocks it, but can be obtained via ECS Tuning or FCP Euro.

Edit: It appears that ECS and FCP stock the superseded Top Tec 6600, i.e., GF-5.

I'm a bit oil annorrak lol and long term member of bitog
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/

I have been researching oil types for years although my car is a X350 AJ34 engine

I've changed my spec to a 10w50 Pao type oil as Pao oils are true synthetic not grade 4 or higher mineral called synthetic although the purity of grade 4 or 5 is nothing to be sneezed at

As I live in Qld Australia it rarely gets below double digits and is usually warm by sunup

My reason for changing was a very rattely engine on start and my car is only used for long Highway trips my engine of course is older and not as advanced as the newer engines

I've been using high tech oil's here in Australia small blender out of Melbourne pretty happy with their product's and prices
https://hi-tecoils.com.au/

I also use some of the lighter 0 W rated oils in my new bikes and cars and if your looking for someone that supplies them here in Australia have a look at this site
https://gmall.com.au/

They import a lot of products for modern engines here in Aussie
I'm not affiliated in any way but needed certain oils and importing them myself seemed like hard work

I have been a member on the Bob Is The Oil Guy Forum for years. A lot of excellent information there and there are many very knowledgeable members. But boy, some of the discussions get into so much minutiae that you'll think your head is going to explode

Ain't that the truth!
Lot of knowledge that's helpful cutting through the advertising blurb though when your looking at oil brands and ratings just be prepared for a lot of time to disappear lol

I just got my 2017 Ftype SVR. I used liquid moly (see picture). Seems to be the old spec. 😬😬

Default Regarding use of Penzoil Ultra Platinum ...

I've been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, which meets the specification.
I do not see where this Penzoil Ultra Platinum oil meets the JLR 5006 Spec.

What am I missing?

Ultra Platinum met the OLDER spec (5122), which is the same as the Ford M2C945 A & B1.

OK, Thanks Buff. You sound knowledgeable on the topic. Is there a Ford equivalent to STLJR.03.5006, and what is its designation?

I do not think JLR ever used Ford engines in F-Types, so no reason for a compatible Ford oil meeting JLR specs.

JLR engines are NOT Ford engines, never implied that.

There are topics here, from before 2018 (when we purchased our F), that mentioned that those Ford specs are the same as the Jaguar specs of the time.

It is a LOT easier to find references on oil bottles for Ford M2C945 A & B1 (or M2C947 A for those of us with 5W-20 on our oil fill caps).

++++++++++

If that lack of JLR specification bothers you, then use the LiquiMoly brand which does. It is readily available from FPCEuro.

I was able to find the latest STJLR.03.5006 spec oil at a dealer here in Southern California for $12.95/quart. I had to call around as not all dealers carry it in quart bottles, I suspect they just carry it in bulk to do oil changes in their service departments. Probably not that many JLR customers are doing their own oil changes these days. I'm sure your local dealer can order it for you, the part # is 15DA2C A72 Edge Pro.

Regarding the Moly & Titanium content, I changed out the factory fill oil at 2750 miles. My car was built in April of 2021 so I presume the factory fill oil was the latest spec. I had a Blackstone analysis performed and was surprised at the results. Moly was only 6 PPM against their "Universal Averages" of 93 PPM and Titanium was 23 PPM against universal averages of 9 PPM. I was expecting much higher Moly content but for whatever reasons the JLR engineers had Castrol formulate the exclusive Edge Professional EC5 blend with a high titanium content.
