Cool Sudden shifting into manual mode?

Twice in the last week I'll be driving along and all of a sudden the car's engine is racing. I look at the center gauge and it is in "1". Last week it was in "2". The first occurrence I blamed on something wonky and ignored it. But not this time.
I never use the paddle shifters or S.

Anybody have any idea what causes this phenomenom?
I'm taking it into the dealer this am, but with no appt I'm not hopeful.

The most benign explanation is that you have the setting enabled that allows paddles to be used in normal drive mode, and are bumping one of them when you turn the wheel. It's not terribly hard to do. Look for that setting and disable it.

Maybe the car is just begging to be driven harder.

Thanks Nati. It was set to D+S. Don't know when that got changed. I have reset it to S only and will monitor. Hopefully that was it, but I don't think I touched them. I didn't think they were that sensitive.

+1

You can disable the paddle shifters. I would recommend doing that and see if it still happens. If it doesn't, you are accidentally bumping them. If it does, then you do have a real issue which the dealer will need to check.

DuhCar, the same happened to me ca. 7-8 times within the past 12 months.
But only at relatively slow speeds (30-40 km/h) and (mostly) after overnight parking. It's just as worrisome as embarrassing.

I never touched the paddles, so I'm wondering what's going on.
The dealer is still looking into the problem ( seems to be rather clueless).

At least it's been documented. Will let the forum know if anything of
importance transpires.
