I am currently searching for a big cooling water leakage after 🫣 replacing the y-pipe/waterpump/Cross over pipe and the usual hoses (complete Euro amp kit for the 3.0V6)
First time I did not replace the thermostat because it looked like a nasty extra job and it looked fine anyway…
But since I decided to take all apart again to look for the leakage(s) I want to replace also the oil-cooler brick and thermostat for the aloy Euro amp one.
Unfortunately it looks like the wrong version? The new aloy one has the sensor attached to it, but my original one has a sensor under the housing.(See pics)
Do I have the wrong one or can I use it anyway and should the connector be left aside??
With the sensor Without sensor but wired at the bottom..

I'm not experienced enough to give you a visual, but it IS possible that you got the wrong thermostat housing. Apparently they differed over the years.
Our EuroAMP kit came with the wrong one for our F, and our mechanic needed to get an OEM one to finish the job. This was BEFORE the alloy one was available.
Thanks. You will probably be right when you need a thermostat with sensor and have one available without. You will miss the connection to the ECU and will not work.
But the connection to the ECU is made by the sensor and cable underneath the thermostat housing and should give no failure (code).
The sensor on the thermostat housing is now "extra" and not connected should not effect the ECU (in my opinion)
Question remains will the thermostat with sensor work "mechanically" just the same as one without sensor? In that case I can use my alloy (euroAmp) and do not have to buy another one.
I hope someone can confirm or have another answer.
PS I live in the Netherlands so returning is no option.

Ha! Very glad to have found this.
I had the entire "Version 3" cooling system upgrade from EuroAmp installed last June, but unfortunately the thermostat has been acting up lately.
I'd been wondering if the kit was compatible with an OEM thermostat (easier/quicker for me to source & swap out at the moment). I'd have assumed that it was, but would've liked confirmation.

I'll take this post as such 👍
Hi, I contacted EuroAmp and my theory was wright. The sensor on the thermostat is ‘additional’ and the internals are mechanically identical, in case your car has a non sensored thermostat. So you can ALWAYS replace it with a thermostat with sensor even if the original had none. The original ECT sensor will stay in place (the one under the therm.housing) and the extra sensor is not connected.
I figured out that the thermostat sensor does the dashboard temp setting, and the ECT on the cross over pipe is the ECU one and throws the P0116/8 codes.
