I took my FTR into Jaguar Orlando for some warranty work, and when I got it home I noticed the right front wheel rim had been gouged, and there's a rip in the sidewall (see picture). I sent pictures and they originally were pushing back on this since I didn't report it when I picked up the car and felt it happened on the way home. Never mind that the tear is going the wrong direction, and would have had to happen in reverse, and I sure as hell didn't back into anything on the interstate on my way home...I wasn't aware I should be inspecting for damage with a careful eye when I collected my car from a Jaguar dealership, and assumed a Jaguar dealer's technicians would own up to curbing a wheel - lesson learned I guess. Anyway, when we brought it back in and pointed out that the paint embedded into the wheel rim was the same shade of green as the paint on their lifts (surprise surprise) they agreed to repair the wheel and replace the tire.
The service manager seemed to think this type of sidewall damage was driveable until their wheel guy gets in next week, and it's lasted about 75 miles or so today going back and forth to the Jag dealer with no issues, just wondering if there are any tire gurus here that can confirm for me? It's not a daily driver, so I doubt I'd take it out much, but it does have to last at least one more trip to Jag, and I was planning on taking it to a dinner event this weekend. Plus, I've only had her for a few weeks and that exhaust note still haunts my dreams. Obviously the ideal situation would be to just let it sleep in the garage for a week or so, but how risky is it?
I certainly wouldn't be doing any top speed testing and would be extra careful around pot holes but if it made it this long I would drive it.
Gad to hear they will be taking care of their mistake.
When any of my vehicles go in to ANY shop or dealers for service, I take a pic of the mileage (had a dealer take one of my Vette's on a 25 mile joy ride) and make sure to walk around the car with the service writer noting that there is zero damage on the car.
When I pic up my vehicle I will carefully inspect it before driving off. I have had to pick up vehicles after dark and will go so far as to get my flashlight out of the glovebox for the inspection.
Over the years I have had shops/dealers scratch my wheels, scratch my paint, scratch my leather and the previously mentioned joy ride (was in for malfunctioning power seat memory).

I've been loving the InControl app on the '16 F-Type. Logs the dealer's drives, average speed, and efficiency, and also lets me know when they're working on it (hood open, disarmed, etc.) - first car with an app like that, and it's been amazing.

True but if they disconnect the battery you loose connection and it will not reconnect automatically remotely. At least that was my experience when they replaced my battery.

Always hard to predict what "could" happen and I would never say that you're good to go forever, but most of the structure of the sidewall is behind that area you showed. Obviously it needs addressed, but based on what I can see, it would be fine unless severely stressed.

When mine was in for some warranty work I could monitor how they were progressing, spotted their (short!) test drives and actually anticipated their call to tell me it was ready to be picked up. The service guy who phoned seemed a bit surprised when I told him I'd already seen that the car was ready so maybe they're unaware of how much we can spy on them!
Maybe you can use it to dump the crappy P-Zeros and get four new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for the price of three?
I was considering making the switch, and I also want to go +10mm on all four tires at some point... I read a thread on here that spooked me about mismatched tire sizes being hard on the AWD transfer case (e.g. going to 305/30's in the rear while the fronts are still 255/35's, or vice versa), so I'd have to do all four at the same time. Either way, dealer will only replace the tire like-for-like. The service manager was real slick, sorta sounded like he was doing us a favor by repairing the damage his tech caused, and tried to get out of replacing the tire because it was "aesthetic". So I'm going to find a new dealership for my business once they finish out the repairs they're in-process on. The whole thing has been a cluster from the start. The main concern I brought it in for was rattling in the front right main door speaker, and the tech ordered and replaced the front LEFT speaker, which was perfectly fine. There's no way he even turned the system on to check, because the second you turn it on it's nothing but rattling and buzzing over there. The service liaison has been pretty good, and has approved some aesthetic warranty items he probably could have denied, but their technicians have been worthless.
Just wow. I think we talked about Orlando Jaguar in the past. I didn't get a good feeling from them when I visited. Jacksonville, where I live, aren't the greatest, but haven't experienced anything on this level from them. Yet.

In traditional AWD cars, you could not get away with just replacing one tire. You had to do them all, even if you just got a flat on one and kept the same size.
With the F-Type, I don't know as it is a different type of AWD system. It's normally 100% RWD biased where traditional AWD would be AWD all the time. Regardless, one tire replacement would necessitate at least the other tire on that end being changed, too.
This thread reminds me of the day I had a blowout on I-95 during rush hour the day after I had a tire inspected by the people that sold the set to me. I was assured that the small split in the sidewall was a cosmetic blemish and posed no damage.
It does appear superficial damage, that said I agree likely ok to drive cautiously, limit speed to less than 50mph until replaced.
I would always replace both tyres on same axle at the same time.
Don't think I would be taking my car back to a garage that did that to my vehicle.
Accidental damage can occur but should be extremely rare and fixed before customer collection

Yeah, they have one more part on order from my original complaint, plus a speaker that will get replaced at the same time that they fix the wheel, but after that I'll be taking it somewhere else. The next closest Jag dealer is twice as far, but I have no desire to go back to this one.
It's safe to drive on! I wouldn't go faster than 70mph. I certainly would never have my Jaguar dealership take care of installing tires on my wheels. It is not their priority to take the time to do a clean and excellent installation of a high speed tire in terms of least amount of wheel weights and being careful with the wheel and tires. Go to a top tier Wheel and Tire shop that makes a living installing for high end sports cars! Always ask yourself, "do I trust this guy or team with my life".

Crazy, I would be furious, now I debate on whether I should bring my car to them or not, I just got a FTR and also live in Orlando haha
Yeah, it irritates me because the next-closest dealer to me is Jag Tampa off Fletcher, which is over an hour away, but I'm definitely not going back once they finish the stuff they still have outstanding. They have a dash piece on-order to fix some trim that was pulling up that's back-ordered, and I'm really tempted to just tell them to ship it to Jag Tampa when they let me know it gets in. I thought things were great at first, because they authorized a few nit-picky warranty repairs that they could have put their foot down over, but then everything after that initial drop-off has been just one failure after another.

Yeah, I'd say these guys should be better since they're also authorized Aston Martin and Lotus dealers, and have a new DBS Superleggera on the floor, but my recent experience would tell me otherwise.
Damn, just as I replied to your other thread, I see this.
It's happened to me before with them, and luckily I caught it in front of my eye where a huge nail went right through my tire. They fixed it on the spot.
Another time when they washed my car and ruined the detail and swirled it up, on top of scratching it somehow (I ALWAYS tell them to NEVER wash my cars). They washed it, ruined the paint. I made them pay for a new detail. There was some pushback as you said, but they owned up to it. I never had to get loud with them. But in 7 years, I've only ever really had those 2 incidents. I make it a habit to show their porters and service reps that I'm bringing in a mint car.
Brought it back yesterday and had them repair the wheel. They replaced that tire too, but refused to pay for the replacement of the other tire on the same axle, even though I was only replacing it because I had to replace the other one due to their error (tires still had apx. 40% life). They claimed it was "cosmetic damage", and that there's no need to replace tires as a pair. So I'm out almost $400 for their ridiculously inflated price on a 255 PZero plus mount/balance and tax (you'd think they could have at least thrown in mount/balance?). They finally replaced the correct speaker this time, and the stereo sounds much better. Not the best I've heard, but at least when I turn it up now I can believe that it's a 700W surround system. Their wheel guy did a decent job on the repair, but I'm **** and I can tell it was repaired when I compare it to the other wheels. Not the way I had hoped owning an F-Type would start, for sure. Someone from the dealer called me Wednesday, before they had gotten me back in to fix the wheel, and "wanted to make sure my experience was a 10 out of 10." So it sounds like they don't have much in the way of internal communication either. I'd steer clear.
Damn, that's a shame. I'm very particular too and they know that, I won't let my 2020 R or 2019 F-Pace S sit outside in the rain when it's at the dealer. I had their wheel guy clean up a curbed rim on the 22s of my F-Pace and the work came out perfect, though.
