Question Track Day Vibration

Hi all

Took the 15 R to a track recently and noticed that when the brakes are hot and under hard braking there is a really violent shake/vibration in the whole car and steering wheel. After pulling into the pit lane, I saw a bit of smoke coming off the front brakes.

This issue doesn't happen during normal highway/street driving at low or high speed. Seems to only be when brakes are hot. I installed new OEM front rotors and pads about 200 miles prior to the track day. Also performed a brake fluid flush.

Are my new rotors warped or brake pads bad?

My vote goes to "warped" rotors (more correctly uneven pad material deposition) caused by the new pads and rotors not being bedded in properly/fully/yet.
My number two vote goes to sticking caliper slide pins.

You were right, it was warped rotors! Got new rotors and pads installed. Somehow the OEM rotors just failed after the track day. Any suggestions on how to properly bed pads and rotors before my next track day in 2 weeks?

A mistake to avoid after following the bedding procedure, or after coming off the track from hot laps. is to not make that habitual reach for the parking brake while the brakes are still hot. This is one reason why a cool-down lap is a good habit.

Good tip! I'm pretty mindful of this especially coming from a manual car.

Any pad manufacturer making pads for the track will have bedding instructions on their website.
