Track tires that fit an F-Type
Hi guys,
Anyone here that regularly (or competitively) track your F-Type? I will be running the TimeAttack Sweden Season 2019 next year (i.e. racing against the clock) and will need better track tyres than the Michelin PS4's that I have on right now.
The only tires I've found that are designed primarily for track use and fit the F-Type are the Continental ContiForceContact, and I find very little information on the performance of that tire. Michelin Cup 2's, Pirelli Trofeo R's, Toyo R888R's etc - none of the usual suspects have the standard dimensions of an F-Type.
So my question is basically - anyone here who's been tracking your F-Type with proper track tyres or semislicks? If so, what tyre brand/ model/ dimensions were you running with?
Grateful for any help!
Jonas

So maybe I should rephrase my question - will the Cup 2's in 265/35R20 and 305/30/R20 fit, or will I have a problem cornering? I have also found:
- Nankang AR-I in 265/35R20 & 305/30R20
- Pirelli Trofeo R in 265/35R20 & 295/30R20
Would any of the above fit - and not just be able to mount, but fit without giving me problems while tracking them?

Thanks for your reply! Yeah what I want are road legal track tires, i.e. tires that are designed for the track but that allows you to drive to and from the track. Michelin presents the Cup 2's as "80 % track, 20 % road" which is what I'm looking for, but they aren't available in 255/35R20 just like you mentioned. Regarding the Proxes RR I guess you refer to the Toyo Proxes R888R which I already mentioned? If so, they don't have a dimension which is even close when it comes to 20" wheels. Maybe if I got a new set of 19" wheels, but that's currently out of my budget (I have 2 sets of 20" already, so one will be used for the track tires).

I was referring to the Proxes RR. Not street legal, so not what you were looking for. They probably don't come anywhere close to the right sizes either.

From a personal standpoint, I can only attest to the Cups (have never tried the others). Moving 10mm off the OEM specs in the positive direction will exhibit no perceptible differences unless you go with a 1/2 inch wider wheel as well, and then you might have just a bit of improved traction (Stohlen, I'm referring to lateral traction ).

I would start by posting if you have an AWD or RWD car.
Then, please be aware that the tire choice makes a difference only if your very highly skilled (unless you use trash tires). On track, focus on weight reduction first and foremost, if allowed in this competition, remove the passenger seat, install lightweight forged wheels, lighter rotors, track brake pads so you can brake later, change anti-roll bars and then put on a set of Falken FK510 (but they wear incredibly fast). 265/305 is good on AWD and RWD, 265/295 is NOT ok with AWD. Continental ForceContact is a close 2nd choice
Based on temperature, pick the best pressure, 31-35PSI, DO NOT overdrive the car to the point of overheating the tires, smooth driving on optimized lines will return the best time.
Good luck!
