Hi guys, new to the forum not sure if this is the right post etc… i have a p300 cab & loving it. just curious about what people are getting fuel wise?

i'm abit puzzled myself, around town i'm struggling to get over 23mpg & did a 30mile motorway journey the other day and it didn't go over 30mpg?? and considering i've came from a Audi S3 saloon which was getting at least 30&42 respectively, i'm so confused as why its worse.

Takes £80 to fill up which gives me 320 miles of range, in my s3 it was £65 and i got 340!… so more expensive to fill and less range, hows that work lol, its the same size engine.

I even spent a whole month in 'wet/ice' mode and it barely bumped it up.

Any feedback would be nice

Don’t recall anyone with the I-4 discussing fuel economy, but that sounds a bit low. On earlier models, anyone who checked found the mileage computer to be about 2mpg too high. Would be interesting to know if that’s still the case.

Pulled out my 2019 F-type brochure to see what it says - didn’t see fuel economy listed. Interestingly, it shows something I haven’t heard mentioned - early model years had 18.5 US gallons useable capacity, but for 2019 it dropped to 13.9 for the I-4 and 15.4 US gallons for the rest. I once did an 860 mile drive on 2 tanks, which wouldn’t be possible with the smaller tanks.

 

Yes, believe my tanks 68litres (18USgallon). just shocked at how low it is, i would have expected this mpg from the v6 not 2.0

 

How are you determining the consumption - from the car, or doing calculations? If the car, then maybe any discrepancy could be down to Jaguar not lying (too much) - VAG is not unknown to cheat on numbers ....

 

Just from what the mini screen in the instrument cluster tells me & on the app. ^^^

 

There is a lot more to mpg than just engine size. While I don't have P300, what you are getting is about what I would expect.

 

Kurb weight of both the cars are very similar, so not really sure what else that could be making the difference, unless the engine just isn't as efficient as the german counterpart.
Just curious to see if its my specific car or others are getting the same.

what mpg do you get in the S then Mahjik?

My long term average fuel consumption from the trip info screen is 11.7 liter per 100 km. This is with a few higher speed stretches in Germany but that won't effect the average too much. 80% of the time at speeds of around 130km/h. I rarely do stop/go traffic or city driving.
So 24.14mpg (UK). P300 1 year old 17k miles driven 90% in sport and dynamic manual shifting

Fuel mapping, injector sizes, gearing, tire sizes (more rubber = more rolling resistance), etc... There are a lot of things that can and will affect fuel efficiency of a vehicle.

Honestly, I never check. I fill it when it's low and just drive it. If I was really concerned with fuel mileage, this is not a car I would have purchased.

 

I have an S and my MPG (US gallons) over the 41K miles lifetime has been (High/Low/Average):

Actual: (23.0/15.0/18.6)
Indicated: (24.2/17.2/19.8)

The indicated mileage is clearly optimistic, as everyone reports.

Those are all full or nearly full tank measurements, mostly commuting. The highs and lows would have been more extreme if I'd refilled at the half tank point in some cases. For example, a couple of hours on a long freeway trip would have been higher (maybe 28?), but was mixed with commuting the following day. As proof of OCD I could show the chart, but instead I'll note that there is a correlation between my miles per day and miles per gallon, i.e. longer drives give better mileage. For me, that's due to more freeway.

This is my first supercharged car. My experience with turbocharged engines is that there is a big drop in fuel economy once you get into the boost.

 

I always track it, but mostly because I'm a nerd. It also is a general health check. It's quite consistent given usage, and if things changed unexpectedly, I'd investigate. Fuel economy was definitely not a consideration when I chose the F-Type.

 

Cold starts really kill overall consumption figures in my V8 - if I stop and restart after 5 miles the numbers are much more impressive!
Like others, if I cared about fuel frugality I wouldn't have chosen a Jaguar - I'd have probably chosen a coffin 'cause I'd be dead!

 

I get better fuel economy than that in my R. With the cruise control at 78 mph, I get an indicated 28-29 mpg on the travel computer. I know it's optimistic, but the thing just sips fuel at freeway speeds.

 

That's because the V8 is just ticking over at that speed, higher gearing.

 

I got in the habit of checking fuel economy, because that tells me if I need to adjust the carburetors.

Oh wait, it's not 1968 anymore.... But I still check and tabulate MPG anyway...

 

I also get 28ish indicated when cruising on the expressway, depending on wind and speed of course.

I have the 250HP version of the I-4 in the XE. With AWD, I rarely get worse than 28-30mpg, often better.

 

Drive downhill everywhere you go and that tank of gas will last you forever.

 

My V6 consistently gets 14-15 miles per US gal in and around town. 22-25 on the freeway. it’s really dependent on preferred throttle position.

 

I checked Jaguar's claimed figures for the range and tabulated a comparison:

European vehicle manufactuer's obsession is with emission figures to meet regulatory targets. In the UK, VED (the annual Vehicle Excise Duty) is directly related to emissions. Fuel figures are produced from standardised test scenarios and bear no relation to real World consumption.

The P300 2.0 i4 is aimed at the buyer who wants the lowest running costs but I think the claimed 35.8 mpg has to be very optimistic. Certainly driving around the M5/M6 and Solihull/Birmingham area is not likley to give you anything like that even with Stop/Start and there will be plenty of that!
