Bizarre problem.

Not sure if the XF's use the same e-diff as the F-types, but I drove an XFR for 4 winters, and I am on my 3rd winter with my XFR-S, both daily drivers. I live in a rural area and have had zero diff issues in Canadian winter conditions, including no issues after getting stuck in my laneway several times with both cars and giving the trans/diff a good workout as a result.

As for traction, I can't imagine that much inherent difference between the F-type and XF, so the X-Ice tires are probably the biggest factor (I run Sottozeros). I certainly wouldn't call the XFR variants "fantastic" in snow - more like average.

Even stranger is that there hasn't been any significant snow in Montreal lately to do battle with. If Jag is using the excuse that the car is not a snow plow, that's pretty lame.

Thanks for the input, i'll check with Jag if the diffs are the same, if the XFR-S can handle some snow than the F-type V8 should as well...

I had Sottozeros on my old S5 and then switched to Blizzaks and it was a huge upgrade, the Sottozeros I find horrible in snow, but very good for dry roads in the winter, you almost forget you're on winter tires.

I have a 2011 XF SC with Nokian HR's I have driven for 4 winters. No issues yet but not sure if the setup is the same. I am interested in resolution of your situation as I am considering ftype in either red or awd as daily driver in upstate ny. Keep us posted and let's hope you get a viable resolution and explanation.

So i've had the differential motor replaced 3 times, and the module once. This time they replaced the whole differential, we'll see if that makes a difference once we have some snow.

Jaguar refused to take it back this time but if it breaks again I will take legal action and force them to take it back.

After having the whole differential replaced the error came back 3 days later. Waited a couple weeks for a field engineer to be sent from Jag, he was to either find the problem or sign the buyback. They took the whole rear end apart, removed the gas tank, etc. and found a corroded wire that they are now attributing the problem to. Just got the car back today, we'll see if this time it's fixed for good or if she's going back to the manufacturer.

sorry you are going through this but I must admit I am fascinated by the problem. Thanks for sharing the trials and tribulations and at least we will all learn something from it.

I have a V8 RWD MY 2014 and it's my daily driver and I drive all winter. This is my 3rd winter, and I have never seen the E-Diff message or had any problems, other than sliding the rear all over the place which I don't mind at all. I am in Pennsylvania and do not have winters quite like you of course, but we've had some serious winter storms and blizzards with "real snow" like a foot or two where it took days to plow the roads and for everyone to dig themselves out of their driveways. Just wanted to let you know, so you don't think that it's "normal" for the E-diff to crap out at the slightest sign of winter conditions.

Great to hear someone else using it daily in snow! We're getting a bit of snow here today and some freezing rain so it should be slippery enough to test her out. I still find it weird that the problem stated in the first winter, one would not expect wires to corrode with only two months of winter driving. We'll see!

I blew my e diff with no snow and my F-type V8s only had 6 k miles.

The car has thrown the special modes unavailable at me a few times since diff was replaced as well as the E-Diff unavailable code.

I'm certainly glad I have the old school LSD.

Have them check the wiring. There was a engineer from jag uk that finally came to look at my car and found a corroded wire underneath the gas tank. This after multiple diff replacements. Haven't had the problem since..
