If you plan on dring vert in inclement weather, make sure you give it some driving time with top up.

is that simply to check to make sure the top is good or is there a different reason?

Some feel that with the top up it's too confining. It's a matter of personal taste really.

All, great information. As a 2014 V8S owner, I'll add one more. I
f you want gross sticky switches and IP get a 2014. I don't know which year they figured out how to change out the switches to eliminate the rubberized coating that turns to glue, especially in a hot climate like here in Florida. However, given that I love my V8S and its tail happy nature. Just makes driving more fun in my demented world, than more controlled AWD. Only have 20,000 miles on mine but love driving it.
Oh one more difference which I am not sure about but it seems that JLR toned down the exhaust after 2014? To make it more civilized. But I am not sure about that.
