Default Vanity plates

Amusing article in the Wall Street Journal on the vanity plate police:
Policing Vanity License Plates Is No Job for an EJIT - WSJ

...Such victories are rare, particularly in California, whose vanity plate standards appear to be among the most rigid...

The word KITTEN has been whisked away by Golden State reviewers who found it too suggestive. California might make an exception if the applicant’s plate adorns a Jaguar. “Even if on a Jaguar, some license plates with the cat/kitten reference may still not be acceptable,” a state official said.

Other states are more feline friendly.

Kitten “shouldn’t be a problem here. Kitty is an animal,” said Shannon Fassett, chief of information and processing for Vermont’s DMV. “We’re a lot more lenient than California”...
PD2911 better be careful with her license plate!

Good read. I like SSVNWI—among the more inspired but denied submissions—is apparent only when you flip it upside down and backward.

Although I don't see the problem with it nor would I want it but very obscure and glad they deciphered it for me. Political correctness is out of control or is our sense of humour getting lost to appease one or two people?

Local car here just has IMBI which makes me smile and happy they put it out there.

My "STOHLEN" license plate seems to make police officers laugh. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

With all the backlash towards the "good to be bad" villain ads, I'm surprised some pc lib didn't kick this back for some crazy reason.

My plate is P1. That's been my plate for about a decade now. I put it on the Jag since I have an "M5" plate for the M5.

I would have liked to have a cool word like Cat, Roar, Pur, but at the end of the day these words are all taken up and I'm not one to use misspelling on my plate. Plus I like a very short plate since it is harder to read especially when it is white lettering on a light blue plate.

Now that's a winning plate in my opinion! Well done.

I have a friend who used to be in the scrap metal business and he had as his plate: ISCRAP (to be read as "EYE SCRAP" and not "IS CRAP"; although I guess they're easily confused). People used to pass his vehicle and shake their fists at him, thinking he was a boxer.

I was trying to get F Type but either it has been taken or they flagged the "F". But I did get E Type no problem.

Just always "accidentally" have some dirt on the bottom of the E.

I've already chimed in, in another thread, that I'm not a vanity plate sort of guy - not that there's anything wrong with that - and couldn't be happier with my 212 UN issued for free (small consolation when you consider on top of Maine state sales tax (5 1/2%) I also paid close to $2,300 for excise tax; an annual fee mind you, although the rate/cost comes down, modestly, in each subsequent year).

That said I did just run a check and the following are available (and permissible)

F-TYPE
VILLAIN
F-15

Not for me but cool nonetheless.

KITTEN, as I suspected, is already taken.

Anytime you use the name of your car in your plate, you start to run the risk of looking like this douche in his red zl1 red zl1 red zl1.

I'm not a vanity plate kind of guy either, but I've considered 'SALSA'. We have red-on-white plates that almost matches the car.

I recently got 'XJS' for my plate, surprised that it was available.

I saved a ton of money on expensive vanity plates by legally changing my name to 7CGB726.

I didn't want to change my name, but I did decide on 28347FC for my vanity plate.
