Default VelocityAP Area 27 Track Day

I have a membership at Area 27 (www.area27.ca) and we are thinking about a couple of dates for hosting a track day this year.

The idea is to have a pretty laid back event – we’ll have the whole day so no need to feel pressured to go too fast too quick. For those who have driven the track before, hold a current race license or have completed an ASN approved driving school, there will be an ‘Advanced’ group. For those who are new to the track and don’t hold one of those qualifications we will start off a little slower with some instruction and ‘follow the leader’ to get everyone up to speed safely first, and then move on to open lapping later in the day.

The event will be open to VelocityAP invited customers & guests only, not to the general public. We expect a mix of Astons, Mclarens, Jags, Audis & Lambos, reflective of our customer base. We are located in a very nice part of the world, with over 400 wineries in the valley and a warm, dry climate. It would be very easy to combine with a short driving holiday and some wine touring:

Potential Dates:
August 30th
September 23rd
September 29th
October 3rd

The cost would likely be IRO $1000 CAD for the full day with a catered lunch + something like $200 for a private winemaker’s dinner in the evening. Accommodation would be recommended at https://www.watermarkbeachresort.com/ and https://spiritridge.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html about 15 minutes South from the track.

If you could indicate your interest and what dates you might be able to attend that would be great. We are looking for some indication on interest before committing to a date.

Hi Stuart. This is Kevin, you just worked on my F-type through Scan. I'd love to do this. Any of those dates work.

Looks quite enticing, although chances for me are not great. Non-zero, but not great. Driving time is in the 17-18 hour range, plus a border crossing. I'll have to give it some thought. I might be able to combine it with visiting some relatives, if they're willing to put up with me.

Followup:

In the not-quite-harsh, not-so-cold light of day, a solo drive 1000 miles each way is prohibitive, at least this summer. Another time, perhaps.

Hmmm...that’s only 41 hrs each way for me. Probably not. Would have liked to visit with you, Stuart.

Not good enough Lance. You need to show more commitment.

Sure, make me look like a wimp, with 82 hours as the commitment bar.

However, I did take a Ducati 748 on a 4500 mile, 17 day trip, just so I would have it instead of something more sensible on a 75 mile stretch of road in Utah.

I was younger then. Cliff Notes: It was worth it.

That looks like a lovely track, by the way, even if it lacks the elevation changes I'm accustomed to.

With apologies to the truly mentally ill (all too pervasive in society) if Lance were more committed - to everything F-Type, including this Forum - one might think he should be committed.

I'm just delighted he's coming to the 2018 Jaguar Wild Blueberry Blast.

I'd need to be committed to show up for that: probably five days driving each way, unless I picked up the pace a bit. Then, it'd either be three days, or 2-5 years.

If he was really, really committed, he could do it in about 15 hours.

Well... the 41 hours was a googlemaps estimate. I do indeed find them to generally be over by at least 30%.

Two years ago, I did a 6,000 mile roadtrip. Why not again? This wouldn't be any more.

And, maybe, if I plot a lesser circle route, I can cut even more time off the trip.

Let’s remember the dear departed* Forum member who drove 100 miles west of Denver, CO with his wife to, yes, Maine for the 2016 Jaguar Lobster Run.

Anything is doable Steve.

*regrettably he passed away later that year.

I once went from Westwood (LA) to Queens in 59 hours, 45 minutes, in a truck with a 67mph governor, by the southern route. There were two of us and we drove 'round the clock. It's one of those things that makes a good story, but I'm in no hurry to do again.

Kind of like the middle of Italy to Switzerland in a day by motorcycle (MV Agusta Brutale, so no windscreen). Fill up, go 165-200kph on the autopiste until the fuel light comes on, repeat, repeat ...

That was a tiring day.

I think I mentioned youth, but did not mention I don't have as much of it now as I did when I was younger :/

A traveling companion helps, but I don't have one at present.

Sears Point ( this was 1978....) to Big White Mountain ( 2 hrs N of Area 27 ) in 15 hrs in a '74 Vette.
Fresh from Bandurant school and full of "situational awareness" " monitor your mirrors".
Stopped only for fuel and chocolate bars.
Ahh the foolishness of youth.

Here's a lap to get you excited. The grass has grown in a lot since last year.
