I agree,we sold montblanc and I was always interested in the people that bought the gold tipped fountain pens. My comment about Rolex is not about perception, but realty of a company that makes a million watches per year and purchased their main movement from the manufacurer of the Omega movement, their in house is basically the same movement. They do have a Ferrari attitude towards certain models making 1 less than they can sell. When conditions are right the Swiss watch companies are very profitable, just like Ferrari. very strong margins. If value is resale then we have have a different disscusion, and Patek always wins. Is a any watch really worth a million plus no matter how complicated or cutting edge? Some people believe so as Richard Mille and Patek take years to keep up with delivery. And god knows who buys those Jacob and Company watches, tho they are marvels of engineering. When I sold a Richard Mille Tourbillion they had no problem with coming up with it, perception vs reality. All that being said i wouldn't mind having a current all silver Rolex Daytona, back ordered 2 years. Perception!

I've got an Omega Seamaster that was my father's but I only wear it on (rare) formal occasions. Ten years of working on cars for a living broke me of the habit of jewelry of any kind, and I haven't reacquired it. I appreciate fine mechanisms though so can see the appeal, but I have nowhere near the means to indulge in that kind of collection.

Great to see all of the chronographs and time pieces.
My father was a small town doctor, and he received a watch as a gift.
Now I wear his old 1969 Bulova Accutron Spaceview... which was also used on the Apollo missions.
It falls somewhere between mechanical and quartz.
But for me it is priceless.

Don't wait... you're now probably going to see an increase in the capital gains tax!

We will survive. I will pay gains tax as it means I made money without working.

Good attitude. Some of us, though, created our gain by working and building something out of nothing, while paying tax in the process!

I worked my whole life, my career was retail both as an owner and in management. Retail demands crazy hours as business is done on weekends and holidays and in Las Vegas a lot of stores are open till midnight. The fact that I can now make money in my retirement is a good thing. Funny how everyone complains about taxes and there is definite an argument about income being taxed more than once, I was a business owner for 16 years! But when everyone is complaining about government not being able to get the vaccine out fast enough who was supposed to pay for this? I'm fortunate I live in a low tax state and highly recomend it.

Ah, kind of figured you weren't paying, like some of us, 13% California income or capital gains, which is taxed as income. Good for you!

This thread is veering off topic. If you want to talk about taxes, start a thread on that. Don't hijack one on watches.

No worries on my account. I'm a miscreant and a recidivist.

There's something timeless (pun intended) about having a quality timepiece on your wrist. I think watches can be a great way to express your style and personality.
