Default What is the best Dash cam for F-type X152

Wondering what the consensus is on dash cams for my 2017 F-type SVR? I saw one that incorporates into the mirror housing area, and makes it look OEM.....is it any good, think it's from China but has a power cable harness that takes it's power from the mirror area. Would like the best solution, that really works, so as to not adversely modify wiring etc. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hello again Don . . .

Rather than asking any technical questions in this New Members forum, I suggest you navigate to the sub-forum specific to your vehicle and post there . That way, you will get informed advice from those with similar vehicles.

Best wishes,

I got one of those AliExpress cameras that integrate into the mirror housing. Easy to install (plug and play), looks OEM and the camera quality is great. Can't go wrong for the price.

That one that integrates well is appealing, but when you read reviews of products that company generally puts out it’s not good.

I have tried many including the expensive BlackVue cams.

I have a Red Tiger F7N in all my cars and even on my e-bike for the past 4 years without issue. Inexpensive and reliable.

There is lots of good info on dash cams and reviews of them on the site at the link below.

I have the Garmin 67W in my f type. It sits at top of the windscreen totally behind the rear view mirror from where I am sitting so it causes no obstruction. I decided in the end not to get into wire tapping and I simply run the thin usb wire it comes with out of sight along top of windscreen, inside A pillar then under glove box to the center console and plug it inside the arm rest cubby
Easy to do with zero tampering. I'm sure there are technically 'better' solutions but this is so easy to do and the garmin works well

I Installed the FitcamX (from Amazon $169.00) Easy to install and video is very good. It replaces the mirror housing behind the mirror and is very unintrusive. I am going to order the fuse box cable kit for park incident video ($39.00) to complete the front camera. I did not order the rear camera option.

Thanks putinbaytr3 I'll check into that as well, looking for something that looks factory and doesn't have a bunch of stray wires visible everywhere.

Regarding the ones that hit around the mirror housing to look factory, they kill the auto highbeams.

It doesn't kill the Auto Highbeam? Maybe they have changed it as a few years ago, the FITCAMX wouldn't, or is there a different manufacture?

Can someone post a photo or video of their FITCAMX ?
from the front. I can’t see how their lens would not take the place of the sensor for high beam assist

Tagging along... if anyone, with a F-Type convertible, has installed the FITCAMX with the rear camera option. Can you share your experience with it?

I'd be interested in how anyone has setup any rear camera on the convertible. All the ideas I've had have been lacking.

Here is a photo of my FitcamX installed on my 2020 Coupe. The lower lens is the FitcamX and the upper "lens or sensors" are unobstructed by the FitcamX unit. I can't speak for early F-Types but there appears to be no interference on the later models.

I like that setup. I will be getting one with the rear camera as well. I was not aware these existed. I was used to installing other models that required a bit more work for the wiring. This is very nicely integrated to the car. And based on @putinbaytr3 it should work fine with mine as well (future mine, still waiting to be able to pick it up)... 2019

Having a front/rear dashcam saved my son from the hassle associated of an accident they were trying to blame him for. Video clearly showed he was the victim. First thing we install in any car we buy.

thanks for posting the picture, newer cars have a different camera set up so you get to keep your high beam assist. Earlier cars will lose their high beam assist to have this sleek look.
I have the FITCAMX on another car and happy with the 4K image. Unit does run a bit hot so may or may not affect longevity of the unit but I guess that’s the case with most dashcams anyway. The video it records is pretty basic. No gps positioning or speed recorded in the video.
For my f-type I now have the Vantrue E1-Pro which is much more advanced but obviously not as sleek. They are a forum sponsor and have a small discount for members but only found this out after I bought mine.

I’ve been told the Thinkware u3000 is the one I should get. Been out for a while. Anyone here have one?
Can get an OBD cable but that might lead to the dreaded battery drain. Hardwire wouldn’t be that hard but it’s too cold to play with the car right now.
