Any of the long life red coolants will be perfectly OK, it doesn't have to be what the local JLR dealership uses. Just make sure it's the red one.

Colour is meaningless. Brand name is meaningless. The only thing that counts is the spec listed in the owners manual.

Given the finickiness of JLR cooling systems...I'd stick with the JLR brand. Its not that much more. Whatever you do, DO NOT MIX the red/orange coolant with blue/green coolant. It will turn into a gel like substance. And yes, I keep a jug of it at my desk at the office. LOL.

Default Who is right?

"Colour is meaningless," writes Mikey, regional coordinator.

And WhiteTardis: "Whatever you do, DO NOT MIX the red/orange coolant with blue/green coolant. It will turn into a gel like substance."

If mixing colors produces a gel-like substance, then color is definitely NOT meaningless. So if WhiteTardis right, then Mikey is wrong, and vice versa.

Who is right? Any Jag technicians out there?

I believe what Mikey is saying is that you should get whatever is spec'd in your owner's manual, rather than just getting red. WhiteTardis works for JLR I believe.

They're both right.

Not all red coloured coolants meet the required Astm d 3306-00a spec, and not all astm d 3306-00a coolants are coloured red.

Not all coolants of any colour meet any particular spec.

Colour is meaningless.

I am more than willing to be educated, but my understanding has always been that the color defines the product. That is the spec is defined by the color.

This was true when coolant was either green or yellow. Now it comes in all colours of the rainbow with just as many specs. Not all specs are compatible.

According to the coolant selection guide just linked by Mikey, Jags take gold coolant. According to the owner's manual my 2016 V6S (MY 2016) takes coolant meeting "specification WSS M97B44 (colored orange)."

So confusing. And contradictory...

I was going by the spec listed on the jug in the pic attached by WhiteTardis.
All the coolants in the chart I attached meet that spec.

None of them meet the spec you quoted.

My preferred coolant (and, yes, I have a 2015 F-Type):

The long version:

The manual says:
"50% mixture of water and antifreeze, specification WSS M97B44 (colored orange) Extended Life Coolant."

I never even knew there was a type other than the yellowish/green type we're all familiar with.I go to Autozone and one of those quick change places and neither of them even knew what I was talking about or which antifreeze is orange. They had Prestone DEX-COOL Extended Life But nowhere on the 10,000 microscopic word specs on the back did it have WSS M97B44 listed or that it was orange. It DID say "DEX-COOL and GM are registered trademarks of General Motors Corporation." I called the dealership, the girl asked the tech, the tech said "use the pinkish colored one"? AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH

Now you know why I asked what should be a very simple question here.

Thanks Mikey I know all that, what I was hoping to hear from one of the members is "My dealer said you can use Prestone Dex-Cool 50/50 Prediluted Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant It's the same spec as what Jaguar uses" Or at least for the Prestone to say WSS M97B44 on the bottle or on their website

I'm taking my F-Type for some spirited driving soon and want to be prepared to top off my coolant. The manual online says that the coolant should meet spec STJLR.651.5003.

I can't for the life of me find any coolant meeting this spec.

Jaguar Owner Information

Does anyone have any insight?

Unfortunately, fits into a similar category as the oil. Readily available in Europe (http://www.total-distributor-partner..._201601_en.pdf ), but tough to find outside the dealership here in the U.S.

WSS-M97B44-D is in the product details for this one:

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...c3nid=IR-27795

So it would appear that is an alternative that we can use?

I bought a 5 litre bottle of pink/red coloured coolant a couple years ago for my XFR and in the end I never used it, other than a few ml of top-up. An Aussie brand named Penrite. I just checked the bottle and among the specs it meets are "Jaguar M97-B44D".
So when it comes time to change out the coolant on my F-Type I will be using that bottle.

Edit - the service schedule says the coolant doesn't need to be replaced until 10 years or 160,000 miles (260,000 km), so I doubt if I will ever need to replace it and I suspect no-one else is even close unless for some reason the original coolant was drained or contaminated.

WSS-M97B44-D is a Ford specification
and is likely from the days when Ford owned Jaguar.

As an aside has anyone looked at the underneath of the F type coolant header filler cap ?
(clue, it doesn't say Jaguar!)
