Understand, but E20 is knock resistant and is noticeably stronger (could be a weak base), but overall the car seems to hate it. More than just throwing a CEL above E20, the engine sounds worse from rasp as more E is introduced from E10.
So it makes sense to wonder if E should be reduced or eliminated from the E10 paradigm. It's not as costly as one might think. E0 is commonly distributed, but only at 87 within 70 miles of me.
If you can't get to 91 E0 or higher economically, Boostane or Octanium adds around $7 per full tank to bring pure gasoline from 87 to 91. Another $6 brings it to 93. Another $8 brings it to 94.
As I mentioned, octane is octane regardless of fuel composition but only indicates the anti- knock properties of the fuel. Many other properties of the fuel also affect the burn. In the case of ethanol, it will significantly impact the heat content of the fuel and the lamda that are also critical factors in the burn.
Our 93 is created with a little ethanol, sold as E10. If you can find 91 E0, you could add a bit more than 10% E85 (cheaper than 91 after subsidies) and you'd have our 93 E10. Maybe add a few oz of Lucas E stabilizer.
I don't recommend it though. I wish we didn't have 93 E10 and had real 91 E0 instead.
A top tier brand fuel will have the necessary additives to keep the engine happy. 91 AKI minimum might be specified, but 93 is preferable to offer a margin of safety, particularly if you have increased maximum boost with a pulley swap.

It wouldn't be the worst investment I've ever made. I've only been to Scotland once, when I was 15. I'm overdue for a return trip. I do try to get to the Highland Gather and Games each year though, especially now that they have Scotch tasting on site.
