+1. Had mine replaced. Works perfectly about 98% of the time but can be problematic at certain pumps in very hot weather.

Quite annoying. How hard can it be to design a usable gas tank for a car in the 21st century?
Turns out I may have been too hasty in my conclusion that the fix was useless. Today I filled up at a Chevron station with no problems (yay!), whereas before the fix at the same station it shut off every few seconds.

So I'm one for two:
the Shell by me: problem is just as bad as originally
the Chevron by me: the fix worked

Thanks also for others' feedback on this issue.

Ditto w/ Steve/Lizzardo.... I would say it works slightly better. Not totally sure what the update was, but it involved something somewhat extensive. It wasn't just an easy replacement... but it seems to work better now. It's true that it probably depends on the gas station too....

Involves the R&R of the fuel filler neck. It is indeed an extensive exercise.

Ok, so I had the same issue yesterday and again today at Chevron. Tried to fill it up on the lowest setting, but it keeps clicking off. Today, filled it again and it clicked off after 5 gallons and eventually was filled up at 8 gallons.

I see a TSB, but my car is a MY17 bought a month ago. Can I assume it already has the new part or ant suggestions?

Thanks

No, take it to the dealer. They have to replace the filler neck.

Thanks Unhingd. I will deal with this till it has to go in for any other issue as the dealer is an hour away. It seems to happen less at certain pumps.

17jag,
This happens to my XKR on a regular basis but only at certain gas stations that use a particular type of nozzle. It is a pain in the ****. Sometimes, if I turn the nozzle upside down with the "trigger" facing up, it changes the angle of the tube entering the tank and I can get it to fill without the stops and starts.

A buddy showed me a trick of holding the pump handle upside down when filling. Works great.

Will get mine fixed at dealer at some point.

That worked about half the time when I had the bad filler neck.

In the 1+ years that I've owned the car, I've only had it happen once and that was recently at a station that I had never used before. Other than that, it fuels just like any other car that I've owned.

Mine rarely has the problem and I've found atmospheric conditions may have played a role the few times it's occurred. Very hot days were in play most of the times it happened. I've not had the fix done since in 3 years it's only happened perhaps 6-7 times.

it is unlikely that the source of the problem on the XF is the same as that on the F-Type, so difficult to guess at the cost.

Glad I found this thread as my '15 V6 is pretty annoying to fill with gas due to the shut-off problem. Standing out in the freezing cold taking forever to fill the tank definitely put my sense of humour to the test tbh.

I had the TSB performed on mine. The first gas station that I went to afterwards...CLICK. Oh, well.

I took my f-type in to the dealer a couple of weeks ago to have them evaluate a fuel level sensor issue. While evaluating the car and researching history, they informed me that the wrong filler neck upgrade had been performed three years ago and they were going to redo it with the now 'correct' parts. We'll see... still waiting to get car back.

I have a similar problem on my 17 V6S. Using the lower notch for the lowest pump rate usually does the trick. Occurs mostly from late fall to late winter.
