Why did I buy an F-Type...
 

I put this first in the picture thread, but it obviously does not belong there..

So what did I drive before I bought the F-Type... ... there is no logic it seems to me, the only recurring aspect is english cars..

That is quite an automotive history. After owning so many Nissans, did you cross-shop a GT-R against the F-type?

The nissan saga was due to my wife working with Nissan Motor Parts Center in the port of Amsterdam.. .. they sold ex-managers cars at bool value to
employees that did not got complementary cars to begin with.. This meant we drove very cheap as we could buy a 3 yrs old car for 40% of the value
and sell at the same price 3 years on. But after a while [ Terrano II was last prize..] the tax inspector got wind of it and then it all stopped...
I did get the Tino at a reduced price but the car was not able to cope with my 2m height and 98kgs then. I fell of the chair in almost every corner..

The Patrols were therefore used, bit too long a story about how & why. But we ditched the Terrano then as we got the first Patrol, traded the
Terrano in on a new Micra for the shopping ...

But the seats in Nissans are no match to my fysique , and getting a bit older it kills my back and I start slipping discs in the lumbar zone..

So I don't look at nissan at all anymore. My wife left the company in 2007, also one of the reasons I guess.

My best ever car is a Discvery 3 [LR3] , we will most probably never sell it. We had such good times on holidays, it took us every year
2500km's to the Algarve [ europe's California..] and back, hassle free. We had 7 persons [ some friends of our children would com along],
all luggage and do 135kmh steady on the highways averaging 9,5 km to the liter [ 22.35 MPG US ]. Its a 2.7L V6 diesel engine.

Unfortunately for me the MGF never outgrew Clarkson's one line summary:

"if it were any more feminine it would have wings".

A friend purchased a Miata and when I asked where the ovaries were we stopped speaking for a bit.

Quite a number of cars. Are they in the correct order [ bottom most recent ?] , since suddenly two 70-ties cars jump up..
But you did change from US to european cars. Is this the same with your bikes ?

did you drive the SD1 for twenty years or more ?

Yep, they are in order; the last one, the '70 'Bee was purchased about 12 years ago and I did a full restoration on it myself; took me 10 years and more money than I care to admit. Sold it for enough to buy the Jag though.

As far as motorcycles go, I've owned Hondas, Kawasaki's, Suzukis, Yamahas, Betas, Gas-Gas's, KTM's and even one Harley

Its good to know that I am NOT alone with changing cars this often !

I had the full restauration on my first car, the Triumph Dolomite Sprint. Car was only 3 years old, but a rust bucket. Turned out to have been standing stationary between degreasing and priming due to a strike !
I did not have the skills, so I learned a lot. Quite a moment to start the engine [ needed only to replace some seals luckily, no overhaul there..] and drive away with my driving license on the day I got it in the mail...

Sadly joy only lasted 6 months. Then a truck crossed my lane and I could not steer away due to oncoming traffic and cycling kids on both sides of the road. The car was a write off , only managed to slow down
from 80 tto 60kmph as I only had seconds. The guy pulled out a preselection lane and crossed. Was an Iranian guy with no valid license. Long story. In the end I got my money and never bothered to do major
works on any car since. :icon_crackup:

The camry.. one car I regret never owning... We rented one in Curação in 1997 [ a newer model ], and I was totally impressed. It was incredibly quiet and smooth to drive !
You give a steady choice of sedans and some coupe's , not the range of rust buckets and pre-stage breaker-yard type of cars I started out with, as a student..

I remember I only did minor mods later, my love for wooden dashes keeps persuing me.. I made a wooden dashboard from a laminated panel, cut a hole for a glovecompartment
and kitted it out with the hardware that I got from a Jaguar on a junkyard... :icon_pirate: I think it was the first Englis car worldwide with a digital clock [ centre ].
Only on the left door I fitted the wood under the window , the other side still had to be done... Early '80-ties DIY custom job... ;)

But hey tzoid9 ; its OK if you want to express your opinion on a GTR, I never driven one so I can not confirm nor counter your facts.

I needed a bigger car then the X-Trail. The Pathfinder is for midgets ; backrests stop under my shoulderblades... And if I was driving,
only a person without leggs could sit behind me.

Also we stopped buying Nissan due to the cost of parts. Once the electric engine of the screenwasher of the X-Trail failed , we had to
buy a complete new tank/pump assembly for [ from the top of my mind.. ] € 265,- . Some year later the washer tank of my LR3 needed
replacing and I think that was something like € 45,- ...

On top of that, the cars became bland [ exept for the GTR and the ZR maybe ], more 'one-size-fits-all' , like ford did later with global models.
And I was shocked when the lower hinge [cast iron..] from the front suspension [Patrol] was broken once ; I didn't even go offroad with it !

So , no more Nissan in any shape or form for me.

I didn’t want this to get out just yet but Unhingd, DJS, and I are planning an intervention the first week in August.
