Yeah, But Does Your Dealer Do This?

Scarborough is a very special dealership and for many years Jay has on occasion dropped in with donuts, bagels and other pastries. I’m sure they appreciate what he does and sometimes good people at a dealer just respond to good people who make thoughtful gestures so it gets paid back. While I live 500 miles away from them I’ve experienced Scarborough’s thoughtful touches and treatment several times even though I’ve only bought a hat from them and paid for a wheel balancing once. They treated me just like they do RickyJay.......well almost

me too- that said, I service at the dealer and buy often enough that I don’t care to be disregarded simply because my I don’t dress up to car shop - if I’m there, I’m prepared to do business ; I used to work in the car business, understand how it works and don’t have time to waste. I have now bought three cars out of state because my local dealer has treated me poorly, lied, or ignored inquiries about their cars. Service isn’t much better, just took the f type in for an annual service - quoted one price last year, another prior to the appointment and a third at time of invoice ($380 higher). Had to reschedule the appt because I had service questions and left three messages that weren’t retuned and sent two emails and left two voicemails for the finance office to get an extended service contract quote/details - that was 9 days ago - no call or response. To put it as nicely as possible, my dealer sucks and the only free thing I’ll ever get is a bottle of water while waiting for a loaner car. The guy that does the loaners is nice though. Might get another rover or f-face this fall, but I would not even consider buying from them now. Shoot, maybe I’ll go to Scarborough too!

Six—of two dozen—hot and fresh Beignet for the Service and Parts Department?
Or a dozen incredible Breakfast Sandwiches on a famous St. Joe’s Biscuit?
It’s not rocket science—that was two days ago (you’ll find out, eventually)—but treating the people who care for my car well is a no-brainer and my pleasure. I had the F-Type in today to check out what I thought might be a faulty window regulator. Turns out all it needed was a “lube” and reprogram. I’d say I was then on my way but the truth is I had so much fun today with the entire crew—as well as hanging around, in, the GM’s office I stayed the entire day. And I mean...ALL DAY!
Best regards,

Last time there I looked at my bill and told them it was wrong. They were missing some extra work because I'd had their PDR guy (or gal, don't know one way or the other) fix a largely unnoticeable door ding that nevertheless bugged me. The one ringing it up asked my SA and he said , "Oh, yeah, that's Steve. If he says the bill is too low, he's right. <pause> Yes, here it is." I always get greetings and smiles. No watches or jackets, but I'm happy with the fact that they recognize me and seem happy to see me.

I haven't fed the local crew but I'm honest and polite. I've been the crew (small shop, so service writer, shop foreman, parts manager, and head mechanic) and can attest to how much even simple courtesy goes to make life more bearable. And remember, courtesy costs NOTHING.

No question I have a very special relationship with Jaguar Land Rover Scarborough—and that includes everyone from the owner to the receptionist—and it’s my genuine pleasure to treat them special. They certainly treat me that way. (You’ll be reading how special they treat many of the F-Type forum members here later this year).
In the meantime, I mistakenly told the General Sales Manager—my dear friend Ron McIntyre—where my wife, step-son, and I were having dinner last night. I hesitated to reply since the last time he asked, my wife and I were treated to the best bottle of wine that restaurant offered. I mentioned this to Ron and he shrugged it off and said he would not do that [again]. So I told him. Man of his word, he did not. But when I asked for the check last night I was told it was already taken care of by...you guessed it...Ron McIntyre. (Including a super generous gratuity: cause that’s who Ron is).
You getting the picture Steve?
Best regards,
Jay

Their “business” extends to far more than strictly business ($ and cents) and I consider myself damn lucky to have a quality dealership, and friendships, like this.
***That goes for the Head of Service Operations as well as the Parts Manager there.

My wife and I just returned home from having the privilege of attending the Goodwin Motor Group—owners of, I believe, 5 dealerships—Employee Holiday Party. And, no, we are not employees in any way, shape, or form. They rented out a terrific bowling alley—Bayside Bowl—in Portland and even hired a fabulous band called “Hello Newman”. The place, the food, the music and ALL the employees (and owner(s), managers) of Goodwin Motor Group are just a wonderful bunch of people. If they weren’t, my wife and I would not have gone for all the free drinks, food, music, or bowling in the world.
They even handed out a big and beautiful Goodwin Motor Group-embroidered bag filled with all sorts of cool stuff packed inside upon leaving.
The piece de la resistance?
I learned just before our exit, that I bowled the high score of the evening; 178 (And I was interrupted during that game which threw my rhythm off considerably). Never mind this had been first time I even touched a bowling ball in over 24 years.
And you wonder why I LOVE my dealership?
P.S. I would be remiss if I didn’t add that the General Sales Manager of Jaguar Land Rover Scarborough, ME—our very own Ron McIntyre—who IS a bowler, had the second highest score of 168. Not bad when you consider he bowled with a broken finger. ON his bowling hand.
