Default Yikes! 4 cylinder F-Type for $75K...?

Was waiting around dealership while my R was getting free annual service.
Saw a new 4 cylinder F-type that stickers over $75K!!!
Wow, the reason I got my F-type R convertible is for the 550 hp engine, to hold me over in between previous 460 hp C7 Corvette & next gen C8 mid-engine Z06 Vette, hopefully still around 650 hp.
I understand not everyone needs all this horsepower, but interesting to see the dealer's ad on the new F-type:
"...Under the hood you'll find a 4 cylinder engine with more than 200 horsepower,..."

It takes a buyer and a seller for asking price to transform into sale price.

I think the 4 cylinder F type is pure genius and should be considered the top of the line (and priced accordingly). Those of you with V-6 models clearly don't respect the planet, and let's face it, you can't really use all that power on the street anyways. Besides, with the lighter weight, even the most experienced drivers struggle to explore the true limits of the 4 cylinder F type, at least on public roads. Anything else is just wretched excess and should be banned.

You left off the /sarc/ designation. Some progressives may actually take your comment seriously--yikes!

Wow....
Kinda sad considering that is the same output as my stock 2.0L turbo Galant from 1991. (And my old 2006 Audi A4 with its 2.0 turbo.)
Unlike the Galant or Audi, I suspect there will be little to no aftermarket goodies to pump it up like the two I mentioned. The Mitsu 2.0 has been pushed into the 9 second range and somewhere near 500-600HP. The Audi 2.0 is easily taken to 350HP.

The lighter and smaller engine can be a real benefit in handling, but without a supporting market for increasing power, this poor F-Type will just be a good looking grocery getter, or something to buy the misses for Christmas.

Agreed.
All the geniuses in the world should only allowed to buy 4-cylinder Nissan Versa, now priced at $9,900.
Take the leftover $65K & buy carbon credits for the rest of us....

Did the ad really say 'more than 200HP'? Should have said 'close to 300HP' - I think 296HP is Jag's number?

Have my 4 pot now for a year and love the car, can't say a bad thing about it, I have had several xk versions and before the F-type I had a 520bhp XKR , with ever tweek going, do I miss the power , well no, can't use it anyway, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, it has 300 brake, plenty of power, it has the look, inside and out. Was out today and had it parked up in a few places, loads of people looking at it and the usual pictures, not one person asked what engine it was, for me it looks the part and drives as good as any f-type, the most thing I enjoy is just cruising along and letting people just pass me by, you can see the smiles as they look at the car passing and the head turns, for people that like big engines go for the bigger variant, simple.
Great move by Jag with this car and suits the like of my country with high emission tax.

Ahhhh. That would make my comment much less relevant. (Apologies powerhouse )

Also have my XKR, and agree that 510HP is really too much for the aggressive driving I do. (Fun? Yes. Easy to handle on tight twisty roads? No.) I've been told I'm faster in my XK as I rely less on brute force, and more on precision.

Still.... gotta love the fact my first gen Mitsu 2.0L remains coveted even today for its shocking potential and reliability.

I hated that JLR cheapened the product line with the 4-banger. I'd personally rather get a year-old V-6S and have money left over to over some mod's.
In fact, that's just what I did.

But, in fairness, the car is a beauty, regardless of what's under the hood. Not everyone prioritizes performance, and, even in my case, I was happy to compromise vs the V8. So, I guess it's a matter of taste.

I've found that my R AWD F-type far more planted and easier to handle on twisty roads than my previous 2010 XKR.

NEVER buy a brand new Jag. After 3 years they are 50% off. Especially never a super overpriced 2 litre.

Agreed that is way too much, especially since that is more than I paid for my new 6 speed v6 convertible. That said, all the complaints about jaguar making the car more mass market are misplaced. They don’t exactly move a lot of these cars. Given the choice between some more mass market versions of the car and no f type at all, I know which I would take. Jaguar will pull the plug, as should any business, if they can’t make money.

Bad advice - if no-one buys them brand new, the 3 year-old supply dries up.

That's a bit like Yogi Berra's "No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded." There's a supply of 3-year old F-types because someone (like me) bought one new. No regrets in my case.

Does production of a 4 banger help their overall emissions targets? Are they delivering something that that is aspirational to the Festiva and Focus rally crowd, or is it just working within the confines of new regulations, sorta like the easily disabled start/stop that no one wanted?

Regardless of those answers, the base price of a 4 cyclinder vs the earlier base of 6cyl simply means their marketing folks and their biz folk seriously got the entry level pricing on the 4 completely wrong, especially if it's meant to be that tiny-slight-aspirational reach for Ken Block admirers. And base price is not outfitted price, so the idea a 4 cylinder could go over $60K is just absurd.

I started looking for the most expensive 4-cyl, but that's a rabbit hole I don't have time for.

well, this is a very beautiful car, so no matter what engine you have under the bonnet, it will turn heads.

however, you can buy a 3 cylinder car from bmw for 150k 😀

Ok to buy brand new if you plan on keeping it. But $75k is not the right price to buy the 2.0
