Hello, I have just bought a lovely used X type estate which is in near top condition except for the electric windows which are all in anti-trap mode I think - i.e. When I downpress (part or all the way) it works every time, but only for 3 inches of movement (on all 4 windows) and I have to press it about 5 times to go all the way down. I also have to press the upswitch (part or all the way) exactly 8 times before it will move 3 inches and again 8 times for the next move etc...a painstaking process. The main 5A Fuse is fine. Please help. Thank you.
The windows have likely lost position memory due to a battery disconnect. This is also an early indication of a failing battery. Here's the reset procedure:

Thanks for this reply Graham. I have tried this method but it doesn't work. I have since used silicone spray on the window runners and replaced the 2 motor fuses, which had the effect of slightly changing the sequence for one opening of each window before returning to the state first mentioned! Quite strange. I have ordered a new battery which will come any moment so will try that before posting again, but if anyone has any other ideas in the meantime that would be great.
So, I have tried the reset procedure on all 4 windows and still no change. I replaced the motor fuses which caused a minor change then immediate return to original problem and then replaced the battery with a new one and there was a minimal change to the procedure and immediate return to the same issue with all 4 windows. Grateful for any other ideas on what might be wrong! Thank you.
