Default coolant

I am hoping a moderator will pick this up and post it to the relevant sections.
In the latest Jaguar World magazine, (march 2013), there is a good article on antifreeze. It states that there are problems with OAT type coolants, especially when used earlier engines. Mainly breakdown of gasket material, corrosion of solder used in radiators, and sludge formation. I would hate to hear of a forum member's pride and joy being ruined because of these problems.

Seems to me there would be two main issues here. One, mixing OAT-based coolants with older glycol-based products. Don't do that - always flush out glycol-based coolant before replacing with, say Dex-Cool. The other thing is old copper/brass radiators that use the old-fashioned high-lead solder. I wouldn't think that's an issue with anything built after the mid-90s or so?

Question Unnecessary sensors!

Is it just me but manufacturers just adding sensors upon sensors to further complicate the system , add more "codes and in general just and make the system that much more complicated thus requiring more trips to the dealer/repair shop.
Just read about a "battery cover" sensor , Really !
How many sensors are in the latest Jag?
How about starting a BY PASS Thread that lists the removal/ by pass of unnecessary sensors or similar items.

Are knock sensors a really necessary sensor and do we really need 2 .
Surely there are some members who have eliminated some sensors and the relevant code.
Would like to see a thread on "simplification " similar to the relocation of a hidden knock sensor .
I read that the XJR's after 2001 had one less coolant bleed off line.
So did we really need 2 bleed off lines ?.
Can I block off one of those lines? Would like to use inlet at rad for a temp reader
.

I've moved this from Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center section to General Tech Help section as no specific model is mentioned.
