Default Could be sensor??

I replaced the expansion tank hose after the fitting that connects into the radiator was accidently cracked, a quick fix, you know duct tape guys til my new hose came in, it worked ok, I could fill low level back up and my warning low engine coolant light would go off until of course I would lose fluid enough to make it come back on. So anyway, after replacing the hose, I topped fluid level off, did not need much, and my warning light came BACK on and has been on ever since. I tried to clear the message out, then a friend used the machine that reads codes, there are no error messages, and even after clearing codes 4 times, the light is on, never went off. So I thought could be sensor or perhaps the radiator cap itself, but wouldn't that either show up as a code or at least the code would clear out and few minutes later reappear if there was a major problem? There's no problem with performance, overheating, losing fluid, just that damn light won't go off and worries me that there MIGHT be a potential prob I am missing...

Angel, if he has a basic code reader, he may not be reading all of the codes in the vehicle. Depending on the scanner he has, it may only be catching the basic engine codes and not the expanded ones. Most of the ones you buy in the store aren't able to read the codes associated with say the tranny or the ABS system which can also trip lights.

ok first I see that I need to check the float inside the reservoir to see if it is stuck on the vertical post. If this does not do it then possibly need to replace coolant reservoir or perhaps the coolant sensor itself? I know the reservoir will come with a new sensor, but would it make sense to just replace the sensor first? The price dif is like half.

The floats are prone to stickig on the bottom, especially wheen the reservoir and been empty. You can take a small hooked pic or bent coathanger to lift the float. It only goes up and down about a 1/2" you may want to empty the reservoir to see the float, i do it by feel. But ive done itr before and know what im feeling for. Also make sure the sensor is snapped in place, ive seen this catch more than a few people from it dropping down from the reserv

I never really lost alot of coolant, maybe used 1/2 bottle to refill at the most. I wondered maybe if there could be air bubbles causing this? After letting the engine cool, just from normal temp, no overheating, I checked the coolant level again. It's still full. I noticed a slight antifreeze odor so I took a flashlight and inspected for any possible leaking and saw nothing but I did notice something that looked like a bottom reservoir perhaps near the radiator? Is there another one, if not what is this? I have done a search to try and find out but to no avail. And yes I WILL be purchasing a manual very soon!

The link works fine for me but opens in a new window. Have no idea how that would affect a MAC.
