Default Ford tensioners for Jaguar???

So I had read alot of posts about people sourcing identical components through Ford, and thought I'd see what was up. Yesterday I billed out a pair of Jaguar secondary tensioners at $90.00 each, (current Jaguar list is $98.00) and I'm not making more than a few bucks on them.

Columbus Ohio is not a small town: sadly, the biggest Ford dealer closed last year, and I thank them for the massive amount of shelving I was able to win at the auction. Maybe they once had a shelf full of tensioners in the past, but today none of the remaining Ford dealers in town have the secondary tensioners in stock. An hour from me in Circleville, Ohio I can buy:

2W9Z-6K254-BA
2W9Z-6K254-CA

and those are the part numbers I found after searching this site for posters who claim to have procured these items.

I don't have a working relationship with Germain Ford in Columbus, so they may not have quoted me a discounted price when they told me that I could buy these secondary tensioners for $175.00 each. They even offered to order them for me so I could take advantage of that deal in 5-7 days, if i didn't want to drive to BFE to get them today.

A little help, please? That's the reality, I'd like to believe that what I read here was a little more accurate.

JagTech, check out http://www.tituswillfordparts.com. They have them for $51.55 plus S&H ($9.95 for normal mail). If you want them overnight or next day, for a bit more they will do that for you.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that Thermo, just what I was hoping for. They're out of stock now, so we shall see what the future holds. I appreciate the link.

JTO,

I bought mine from parts.com, $49 right - $55 left:

http://www.parts.com/oemcatalog/inde...layCatalogid=0

Compare that with the same tensioner from the same website, only for a Jag V8, at $75 each. That is pretty much the cheapest I found for tensioners under a jag search, but no matter because parts.com won't sell it and sends you to their other website for jags which is more expensive.

Still took 3 days order time plus shipping to me. I could not find any of these parts locally, either. As I may have told you before, I got the timing tools 'on loan' from the largest Ford dealer here, and they had never been opened. Why carry the tensioners if you never do timing jobs?

Anyway, I have a right and left pair if you need them. Just send me a PM.

Thanks Tex,

Are they Jaguar factory packaged? I have to look at the Ford supplies and compare them to Jag so that I am certain for myself they are identical before I buy any that aren't the geniune article.

This guy http://tinyurl.com/mxfce4 also sells a secondary chain with a master link, which would seem to hugely simplify the changeover....

No, Ford package, but they reference Jag on the package. For instance, the LH tensioner part number 2W9Z-6K254-CA you referenced earlier has the following text below the part number: "SERV. TENS., SEC. LH, JAG". I will take a few pics and post them for you.

Jagtech, how much similarity is there between the Ford Focus (02-09), the Volvo S4, and that line of cars? I was looking around at ideas for upgrading the rear suspension a little bit to add an adjustment to the upper control arm such that you would be able to set the camber to whatever you wanted. Atleast from the pic of the upper control arm, the jag part look awfully close to the adjustable control arm. I really don't want to buy this part without getting atleast some idea of it possibly working. I have found the part for $60 (per side). I wish i could just get one in my hands to compare measurements from the new piece and that which is on our X-types.

Thanks.

Hi Thermo,

As for passenger cars, generally speaking if it's not a 1958-2003 XK or XJ, I don't know anything about it. Sorry I can't give you any input.

jagtech, thanks. I wasn't sure if you could or not. I thought maybe you had some sort of "cross reference" book or something of the like. Guess I am going to have to pay a visit to the local wrecking yard and take a look at what I can find. It sure would be nice to have something that I can adjust the rear camber by -1.5 to +5.0 degrees.

If I can't find a solid answer on this soon, may end up getting a basic camber adjustment bolt and use that. But, that is only good for +/-1.0 degrees. Oh well, atleast it will get me a lot closer to where I would like the car to be.

Post Ford Tensioners

Here is some info I saved from another source.

Remembering an old "ford' parts source lead that I used to have out in Arizona, through Five Star Ford there in Scottsdale. I figured I'd try to see if there was any way the "2000-03 Lincoln LS 3.9L v8 timing kit" was any cheaper through Ford. Which I assumed it would be.

I've forwarded the response from MAX at five star ford:

"Thank you for the request. I think my pricing is way better ....don't you??
Shipping cannot be more than 30.00 at the most for this "light stuff". I
have to order the parts you need. All I need is your shipping and billing
info to get the order going. "

This should be everything needed to do the job, minus the sprockets which are commonly reused. So far I believe this is THE cheapest price available anywhere on this timing kit for this engine. Thought this could be of some help to some of you.

Hope this helps

Thanks Eagle, I appreciate the resource. Right now I'm waiting for a pair of Ford secondaries, so I can lay them down next to the Jag ones and play CSI Tensioner.

Thanks One,

The point that matters to me is that the tensioners are the from same manufacturer and therefore identical in all respects. That's the only way I can consider them as acceptable to bolt into other peoples' engines.

I can buy a ball joint for an earlier model Jaguar from the factory; I can but a Lemforder through an aftermarket supplier, which is OEM but carries a much lower price; and I can buy an aftermarket balljoint with no known manufacturer's source that has proven to have a life expectancy of about 25%. Parts is parts, except when they're not.
