I was hoping someone on here could help advise if a cost for a repair sounded about right. I accidentally reversed into a Classic Jaguar the other evening, no more than 2mph and it's dented the bumper and popped it off on one side. I don't want to go through insurance so the owner got a quote from his trusted mechanic of £500 cash to remove the bumper and reshape.
I've attached photos but they're not great as it was dark. Does this quote sound about right for this type of repair, if anyone knows?
I never give dollar quotes and especially not on anything that old. You have no idea what will show up when you start taking things apart or if they will even come apart! Remember old car (You did not give us any model or year information) and the UK with salt on the roads.
If someone came to me with that damage it would be time and materials without a firm price. Just too many variables involved.
If it was me I would pay the $500 as long as I got something in writing stating that I was no longer liable for anymore damage.
It does not look like he is trying to cheat you. $500 really does not go far these days with cosmetic damage. I just had a similar Ford F-150 front bumper small impact. Commercial Shop quoted $1800 and that included a new bumper. That truck is literally the most common vehicle on the roads in the US so the cheapest and most widely available parts.

If I was the owner of the jag, and I started to get the feeling this is going to be more trouble than it's worth, I'd just call in the insurance rep and have him deal with you.
