Legal Leaper?
Does anybody know whether or not the Leaper sprung bonnet mascot is legal in the UK?
I have inherited one on my 04 2.5 X-Type (no offense meant but it wasn't what drew me to the car in the first place!!) and the Parts Guy at the local dealership questioned it's legality.
Anyone ever been challenged?

RE: Legal Leaper?
Thanks norri
I found a thread on the UK site after posting mine which, as you shave said, confirms it's a bit of a grey area.
Having done a bit more digging it may (just MAY) be ok to have the sprung ones as there is reference on the VOSA website to an EEC directive saying if a projection is greater than 10mm it should bend or deflect out of the way so as not to cause injury to a pedestrian. However this might only apply to kit cars and the like, with a production run of 500 or less per annum!
I think I'll play dumb if I get stopped and think those who have had legal run ins might have been stopped for a bigger offence than the cat!
The UK site is sort of back at http://rory.net63.net/phpBB3/index.php
May be temporary but at least it's there. Found it really useful researching my purchase.

RE: Legal Leaper?
As has been said, this is an extensive subject. In recent months at least two people have been charged in the UK. Iasked the police for advice in Edinburghand they quoted me the various regulations. A Traffic Officer considered it illegal but would give me time to remove it without charge. In addition the police said that I would leave myself open to Civil Liability in the event of an accident. The Arden Leaper swivels and comes off if hit straight on. This also comes with a certificate saying it meets regs.
I have removed my leaper with regret and replaced it with a badge.
