Default Potential battery short.

I'm getting pretty good at finding these "engineering mistakes" on our cars, and here is another.

Ok, so the issue started with the battery going flat, this was sporadic, sometimes the car would go trouble free for a week or so and then boom,,,, out comes the boost pack.

I was also getting the power steering go heavy and the touch screen would come on and off. Sure signs your battery is dead or flat.

Battery was definitely draining somewhere.

So last week I took the battery out to give it a charge and straight away I see the problem. The positive lead ( why do they always do this) was running tight against a screw stud that holds the battery retainer in place, and the insulation was pinched, I couldn't see any copper but you only need pressure on the insulation and eventually it bleeds. and that is what appears to have happened, so a bit of real insulation tape and the problem is gone.

So guys, next time you are pottering around in that area, check that positive wire ( the big one on the battery) if it is touching that stud, you have a potential breakdown.

They did something similar to the handbrake cable.
