Default Radiator/Engine Cooling Fan

Hello...... before I go out and buy a pricey replacement could you tell me if the mere motor to the fan or the connection cords can be replaced before buying the entire assembly?

2011
XJ Base model
USA Georgia
It is obviously bad because of the temperature getting hot while idle, air not blowing cold continuously unless car is in motion but want to try other cheaper options before the big whammy.
If it is doable where do I look for the proper part and connection pieces?

Thanks Yolanda

Welcome to the Forums.

I saw Yolanda, and thought my wife had snuck in, but she does not nave a late XJ, oops.

When the fan is sorted, please do an Intro in the New Members Area.

The members in the XJ (X351) Tech Section will have answers.

I am more familiar with the older beasts, where everything is repairable, rebuildable, able to be adapted, only needing a sense of adventure, and common sense.

Nearly all cars use these thermo fans now, and the motors etc will not be unique to any specific brand, I reckon.

Good luck.

Yo K P, the fan controller and the fan are 2 separate parts, so, you can replace only the fan or only the controller. The question comes whether the controller or the fan is bad. This can be easily determined by connecting a multimeter between the 2 wires coming off of the fan. With the car off, you should see 0 VDC. If you start the car and turn on the A/C in a manual mode with the fan speed set as high as it will go and the temp setting as low as it will go, the multimeter should be up around 13.0 to 13.5 VDC. If you see this voltage, then the controller is good and your fan is bad. If you see something less, then you have a bad fan controller.
