Gear shift emblem

I have a 2006 XJ8 regular base and the gear shicft has an R with gren and white stripes. What does this signify.
Is it the breaking system or the transmission?

That indicates the "R" series, but you say yours is an XJ base model, so if you aren't the original owner a prior owner changed the shift knob.
