Default XK Rear Seat replacement with a usable storage area

Has any one heard of replacing the unsuable XK rear seat with a carpeted deck storage area, similar to a Corvette?

I've wondered that too about the XK8/R. The back seat is rediculous. Seriously. When I have the seat where I like it, there is zero space left. Even pulling it all the way forward on the passenger side, my daughter 5'6" sat with her head cocked against the roof.

The XJS convertibles had a rear deck that was handy

I like that! But the backs will have to be redone also, fitting over the top of the support (convertible).

Good ideas...will keep those in mind! (And I see space for a sub or two)

The panel in the back slides over where the seat back was & is secured via the 2 hold downs as shown. It is covered in leather along withh all the rear panels as well as door panels. The photos you see are of 2 different versions I made up. When I fitted the Recaro seats I found they went further back so I had to make the bottom panel lower & shorter so I lost the storage cubby.

Nice.
The XJS convertible I had put a short chrome bar across it to stop anything from sliding.

A person could hide a mini-bottle NOS system under there. Good place to hide firearms too or just hold CDs etc. The back seat is just a place to toss stuff anyway.

I suppose a person could turn it into a single side facing jump seat so at least you could carry 1 person in the rear.

Or cut out the wall to the trunk and have them facing backwards with their legs in the trunk.

Worse back seat layout I've seen. Our classic mini and the old little Triumph Herald had more of a back seat. Worse, no headroom in the back even if the passenger is legless.

This isn't possible as the gas tank sits vertically between the trunk and the rear seat.

Default rear seat options

There's a firm called http://www.rearseatdelete.com

they only work on US cars now but maybe you could talk to them and have them customize something.

For XJS coupe owners, can they get the "storage boxes" from the XJSC or the storage compartment from the convertible retrofitted to their cars?

Default Deck lid (cubby) release handle

Just looking back at this old thread. You did great work on this rear seat delete. I plan on a similar operation. Do you remember where you got the door handle/lockdown device. I want to somehow secure door on my system.
Thx.

Check the RV or marine suppliers for latch options. Southco is an OEM for all sorts of latches and hinges, not sure if they have a friendly site or if they are all B2B.
