Default Import Issues from USA to Spain, Dual VIN - RESOLVED

I bought a 1996 XJS in USA and I am trying to get it registered in Spain, but the local authorities are not allowing me to complete registration and drive it.

There are two diferent VIN numbers:
  • One is the “US VIN” number that was always used trough the whole purchase (title, bill of sale, shipping, customs, etc.), which is the VIN that appears in every sticker and the windshield pillar (SAJNX2740TC225285)
  • And a different VIN number engraved on top of the firewall was found (SAJJNXFD4T5225285)
The local authorities request an unique VIN for each car. As I have read on this forum, a very similar case from argentina, Belgium.... This is a situation happen when the car was imported from UK to the USA. Is there any document or official report that I can present to Spain Authorities, and solve this issue?.

I have to think that Jaguar customer assistance can provide something official, or at least something official looking. Surely it won't be the first time they've had to deal with this scenario.

Let's hear what others have to say

Cheers

I finally solved it, so if someone is in a similar situation in the future, my suggestion would be:
  1. Use both IDs: original VIN + US VIN or NAS (North America Serial) in the buying and title documents.
  2. If not, contact a local Jaguar dealership, explain the situation and send them photos of both VIN and NAS, plus the engine serial or the gearbox serial... they will contact their local "homologations" department and issue an official certification. In Spain it cost me around 110€.
Yo can save a lot of time (more than a month) if you don't have to figure this out by yourself!

Hope it helps!
