If this snap ring comes off does this grenade the tranny?

 

I would not say "grenade", but you do risk metal going through the unit and therefore getting in the filter and possibly damaging other parts in the unit. Usually when I get calls for the drum, I don't sell other parts to replace anything else damaged. So, going off of the trend, no, other parts do not usually get damaged.
