Hope this doesn't sound too snarky, but I saw the classic Mk2 referred to as a "Mark 11" and now I notice that the old XJ forum is titled "XJ6 & XJ12 series 1, 11 & 111"

It should be "Series I, II, & III" needless to say!

And to get really pedantic there was no Mk1.

Nah you don't sound too 'snarky' at all.

Take your point about the missing 'Cap' S.

As for pedantic; as far as I am aware, when it was produced 55/59 it was not a Mk anything just a 2.4 or 3.4.

Then it became known as a 'Saloon' but not a Mk anything, to differentiate it from the XK Jaguars.

But when the Mk 11 was introduced in 60, people had to call the previous offering something, and so it was retrospectively called the Mk1.

Of course the Mk11 should have been called the Mk1 and the now baptized Mk1 should be the Mk0.

I think Mk1 and Mk11, sound better than Mk0 and Mk1.

Now then, somewhere in the middle of all this, we also have the introduction of the S Type, which is somewhat different to the oft confused Mk11 and has a rear similar to the MkX.

Be a heck of a long forum header if we had to use; Mk1 (55-59), Mk11 (60-67), 240, 340, S type (63- 67) + Daimler 2.5-V8, Daimler V8-250 ( I can't remember the Daimler years for Daimler 2.5-V8 and then Daimler V8-250).

You might guess, I like this era of Jaguar, just something about them.

My main point was that it's not Mk11 it's Mk2; similarly it's not Series 111 etc it's supposed to be Series III. The former reads "Series one-eleven" and the latter (correctly) "Series three" (Roman numerals). Snark snark Name: icon_smile_tongue.gif
