Default XJS. Classic?

Hi chaps.
When are you going to move the XJS forum into the Classics section?
After all, it predates the XJ220 by a considerable margin and is surely deserving of the term 'Classic'.

Hopefully can of worms not opened here!

No argument from me Steve,

This topic has been brought up a few times. I my eyes the XJS IS a classic car. Some are better than others (mainly colors and dropheads). They make my head turn every time I see one.

And they are so affordable at the moment unlike the XKE. Very desirable.

I didn't wish to annoy anybody or anything like that, I was just curious to know why the XJS was still in the Modern section.
The first XJS was on the road in 1975 as I recall which, in my old fashoined sums brain is 39 years ago.
Maybe (in all of the Jaguar forums) if it doesn't have an XK engine (or a Metro engine [XJ220]) then it is not worthy of inclusion to the vast hall of fame of Jaguar.
Maybe they are now too common on the roads,?

The XJS section will be moved to the Classic section shortly.

Never thought of this before (whether XJS is classic). I suppose if SI-III XJ6 and XJ12 are classic, then XJS is too since it is their contemporary and they share many critical parts.

And when you see the gearshift bobbing up and down you know you're driving something from another period.

Thanks Jim, excellent job.
Obviously I now have to scroll further down the page to find the pearls of wisdom that I am looking for but a cheap price to pay!

In my view, the XJS is still a driven car to a certain extent, as I tend to see them here in SoCal, surface streets or freeways and certainly more often than series I, II and III sedans. Perhaps it is for this reason that the car is perceived more like a "driver" (sales ads) than equivalent older Jags and, as a driver, it may not yet qualify until we all park them for the next show, or Sunday drive... (Personally, I'm contributing to this with my XJS).

What I definitely see much more are XJ40's, but I hardly ever see an E-Type, other than at car shows and neither do I see 60's sedans being driven around. The question is, what does the word "classic" exactly imply?

Cheers,

A classic is an outstanding example of a particular style, something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality; Wikipaedia.

Also depends on the State you live in as to what is classic for plates and registration. Technically anything of interest 25 yrs. and older is a Classic,

In Washington state the requirements are minimal:

To use Collector Vehicle plates, vehicles must be:
•More than 30 years old.
•Capable of operating on the highway.
•Owned and operated as collector vehicles.

Thus any roadworthy automobile from 1984 or earlier can qualify as a (so called) 'collector vehicle'.

Here's one that 'runs grate' , a real collectors car if I ever saw one

1983 mercury cougar

Cheers

All this argument about what is and what isn't a 'Classic'. Is it 25 years old / 30 years old / 35 years old / 40 years old / etc..........?

It's very simple. A 'Classic' is a car that was in current production before you were old enough to drive it.

In my case that means the XK150 era - and I don't mean the current one!

In my case that would make anything pre-2007 a classic

By that account I would go back to a 120 and then be Vintage?

If the years dictate what a classic is then the XJS would be hard to categorise, 1975 - 1996.

Pre HE maybe. 21 years of production means some here would certainly qualify for club registration (heritage) while others would be everyday drivers within the same model.

Some I have never seen here, like the LeMans.
