Can anybody tell me what years/spec of 420/420G were fitted with the variomatic power steering?

The Marles Varamatic was first installed in October 1964 with the introduction of the 4.2L engine and continued through the production of the 420G.

Thanks Phil
Was power steering an option on the 420 or was it fitted as standard?

It was standard on the 420G. I do not know if it was standard on the 420 which is part of the Mark II/3.8S line. You might try asking in that forum.

According to Wikipedia, Marles Varamatic was optional on the 420, but standard on the Daimler Sovereign version.
