Description:
I procured this 1985 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas in January of 2019. It was in need of a transmission rebuild which I had completed at LAX Transmission in Los Angeles. I then took the car to JP European Auto in Huntington Beach, CA, and had the following done:
- Rebuilt the steering rack tower
- Installed new motor mounts
- Installed new front shocks and upper ball joints
- Installed a tappet kit for the exhaust valve tappet guides
- Installed new valve cover gaskets
- Installed new oil pan gasket
- Installed front crank seal
- Wheel alignment
- Repaired vacuum lines
- Replaced rear wheel hub bearings
- New spark plugs and wires
- New distributor cap and rotor
- Passed California smog inspection
- New rear shocks
- New radius arm bushings
- New rear brake calipers and brake pads
- New rear brake rotors
- New parking brake pads
- New differential gasket
- New rear tail pipe and exhaust silencers
- New rear intermediate pipes
- New heater valve
- New starter motor
- Charged the A/C system with R134a coolant and it blows cold air
This car drives beautifully. It combines the feel of the luxury car with the handling of a sports car. I have sorted out many of the mechanical problems since I took charge of this car in January. It is now a daily driver and is looking for a Jaguar enthusiast to take it to the next level. I was very impressed with the overall condition of the car. The only surface rust I see is on the back passenger tail light where a small dent is present. Every bolt I removed from under the car was in pristine condition with no corrosion present. All the electric windows and sun roof work as does the electric adjustable driver seat. All turn signals, marker lights, head lights and tail lights work as well.
I have put over $7,000 into this car since January of this year. I am open to reasonable offers. Call or text me at 424-204-2974 or email me at jlisowski@mac.com. I am located in Venice, California.
As the Previous Owner mentioned above I can add a bit to this description. I bought this car from the 2nd owner in spring of 2015, with 85,000 miles. I did some work to get her back on the road. The biggest improvement came from getting all the injectors ultrasonically cleaned. I also had the AC converted to R134a. I replaced the front brakes and master cylinder in 2017. I drove her pretty regularly (added over 20,000 miles) until the end of 2018, when the transmission failed (turned out to be just a stupid broken C clip, but one that required the whole transmission to be dismantled to replace it, or even touch it). At that point I sold the car to my friend John, who started with the transmission rebuild and proceeded to do all those other things because he is a perfectionist (no offense, John). He is selling the car because he can't abide a car with any leaks. (Yeah, I could have told him...) More realistic fans of old Jaguars might be a little more tolerant of that. Anyhow I also wanted to mention that the radio does work, pretty much, it's just that some of the LEDs don't light (which makes tuning a bit challenging, but not impossible). And I put a brand new set of Goodyear tires on her in late 2016, so those have only between 10 and 15K miles on them. And as far as I know this era of VDP only ever had three floor mats because those shaggy pillows (best way to describe them) would interfere with the pedals, please correct me if I'm wrong.
So, any questions?
