I procured this 1985 Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas in January of 2019. It was in need of a transmission rebuild which I had completed at LAX Transmission in Los Angeles. I then took the car to JP European Auto in Huntington Beach, CA, and had the following done:

• Rebuilt the steering rack tower
• Installed new motor mounts
• Installed new front shocks and upper ball joints
• Installed a tappet kit for the exhaust valve tappet guides
• Installed new valve cover gaskets
• Installed new oil pan gasket
• Installed front crank seal
• Wheel alignment
• Repaired vacuum lines
• Replaced rear wheel hub bearings
• New spark plugs and wires
• New distributor cap and rotor
• Passed California smog inspection

The following items I installed on the Jaguar

• New rear shocks
• New radius arm bushings
• New rear brake calipers and brake pads
• New rear brake rotors
• New parking brake pads
• New differential gasket
• New rear tail pipe and exhaust silencers
• New rear intermediate pipes
• New heater valve
• New starter motor
• Charged the A/C system with R134a coolant and it blows cold air

I am currently replacing the headliner in the car and it will be completed on Tuesday, June 24th. This car has a small oil leak probably coming from the timing chain cover as diagnosed by JP European Auto. I bought a set of gaskets to fix this problem, but it is beyond my expertise to complete this work. The gaskets will come with the car. The passenger side hood latch needs adjusting as it is prone to pop open when driving. I purchased a used spare latch which will come with the car. I also purchased a new spring for that used latch which will hopefully solve the hood problem. The cruise control does not work. The previous owner bought an extra radio from a 1987 model and that will come with the car. He also bought six used face plates which fit the current radio and those will come with the car. I bought a $200 car cover which will also come with the car. I have two service manuals which will accompany the car as well. The original back seat and passenger side shaggy floor mats are intact. The driver side floor mat is not original.

This car drives beautifully. It combines the feel of the luxury car with the handling of a sports car. I have sorted out many of the mechanical problems since I took charge of this car in January. It is now a daily driver and is looking for a Jaguar enthusiast to take it to the next level. I was very impressed with the overall condition of the car. The only surface rust I see is on the back passenger tail light where a small dent is present. Every bolt I removed from under the car was in pristine condition with no corrosion present. All the electric windows and sun roof work as does the electric adjustable driver seat. All turn signals, marker lights, head lights and tail lights work as well.
