Description:
1988 Jaguar XJS V8 conversion project.
I've owned this car for over 4 years and converted it to V8 a little over a year ago. I've been driving it around for the last 9 months but we are getting ready to relocate due to career change and will not have room for it
Here are the details
Engine is a 1993 9C1 police option 350TBI with a 700R4. I have installed brand new roller lifters, pushrods, Melling oil pump, new timing chain and gears, all new oil seals, new valve seals, new water pump, power steering pump. Brand new shorty headers. I’ve adapted original Jaguar water temp and oil pressure sending units to the Chevy engine. I bought a PFI standalone ECU and harness for it. It’s a 5 sensor ECU that also has data logging and diagnostic ability. Flow thru Side Pipes with heat shields installed with flex couplings.
700R4 Trans has a Transgo shift kit and new torque converter, filter and seals installed.
Entire rear subframe of car was rebuilt. New calipers, new rotors, new service and parking brake pads. New mounts and bearings and seals and u joints.
New shocks all around, brand new master cylinder as well as new front brake lines. I have new front pads as well
Rebuilt steering rack with new tie rod ends.
Brand new F body LS cooling package, (high flow radiator, AC condenser and twin electric cooling fans with harness.
Fuel tank was removed and cleaned and repainted. Instead of regulating down the original fuel pump, I installed a new Airtex pump that is designed for TBI. It is mounted in the trunk where the original JAG pump and uses the factory Jag wiring.
Interior of the car is in good shape. No cracks on dash, rear seats look brand new. Front seats don’t have any holes in them but do show some wear. Headliner is mostly removed and needs to be redone. It was always garaged. Body is a 7/10. Roof has faded spots, rest of car polishes up very nicely. Sunroof does not leak and will work if power is applied, I disconnected it since the Jag switch was malfunctioning. All light lenses are in good condition, all trim is present.
I have over 12k invested in this project. I’ve done my best to reuse original wiring or just run independent. I was building it to be a cruiser not a power monster, gearing should allow 75mph in OD at around 1600rpm. Right now I have been driving it around town as is and have put over 1000 miles on it. I’ve had it up to 65mph a few of those times. I have a set of 2000 18” XJR wheels that are in very condition. These will be available to the buyer for an additional cost if wanted.
There are boxes of extra parts to go with it.
While I have been enjoying the car here is my list of what I wanted to do next
· Tach needs to be modified to read V8 signal, very simple step but Tach has to be removed. I have the manual on how to do it
· Overdrive needs switch run, I have the harness
· Car needs aligned but I was waiting until I did all of the front bushings and joints (all included)
· Tires look visually new but are more than 10yrs old
· Headliner
· AC lines connected
· This was one of the years that came with the auto front seatbelts, driver side was not working when I got the car, I used one I had from another Jag, its not perfect but it works. Passenger side is locked in position but the belt has a release so it can be taken on and off.
All that being said, I would recommend the car be trailered if it’s leaving the local area or being driven at high speed (overdrive, tire age, and alignment)
Still have the car? I'm looking for a nice conversion. As a non-car mechanic person, I rely on the expertise of my indy shop that services my 05 super V8.
I will show them your pics. If you still have the car and my mechanic likes what he sees, I'll send you a PM.
Thanks for your patience.
Mike D.
