As the tool is locked to the VIN I would check with VAP to find out if it's actually useable by anybody else. My understanding is they cost more to "reset" from the maker (not VAP) than they are generally worth. So although it's nice to recycle, it's of dubious value.

I believe you're able to clear the tool and reuse it but you can't have the tool supporting 2 vehicles at the same time. The data logging software (another product sold by VAP) and tool is tied to your VIN and can't be reused. That's the impression/understanding that I have but may be wrong.
