I have a feeling clearing the code may have fixed it from the start. But when I back flushed it some gray fluid came out - maybe it was just junked up in the core. It heats the cab fine but not the high temp like my truck. I run it at 90 and in 5 min the cab is fine then I tunr it to 72-75. It d/n hurt pulling the pump apart and it was kind of cool to look it over.
Yep! I missed somethig, though. Do you have a dash panel fault indicated? BTW, I am betting against the heater valve being stuck. And, remember, the heater valve powers on to close.
What do you think about my methodology?
1) Clear self diagnostic code thru the temp interface on dash and rule out damper issues 2) test fuse and relays for pump 3) put properly polarized 12 VDC on connection to pump & solenoid - repair as necessary 4) back flush heater core or system 5) add coolant as necessary
Climate Control Panel Interrogation Procedure

What manual mentions Electronic Control Panel (driver/owner handbook, vehicle care handbook???)?
The Electronic Control Panel mentioned. Is it the Climate Control?
The climate control system is equipped with self diagnostics. If a fault is detected, the symbol 'E r' will appear in the display accompanied by a series of beeps for five seconds.
1998 XJ8, gearbox fault & check engine code. Car was running like a scallded dog for a year after new plugs and removing sludge in exhaust ports. Then bam! gear box fault. She runs great in reverse if I could drive that way home from the pubs I would have no issue. After puutng in drive I get a big jars and she runs in limp mode under amber warnings. I did beat a school bus on a 30degree grade after 400 yards. Went to Aamco, they think it could be electronic or low fluid. She has not dropped a "snakes lick" of lubricants. Only 71k miles. Is it possible there is another soultion than a rebuild? The tranny guys were licking their chops when asking to leave it with them. This is a great car but I am in a delima to scrap it and buy a Honda. Please help me with your experiences.
