I just finished a do it yourself carpet install in my 340. Actually looks decent for a home job. I have re installed the front seats and had forgotten about an issue that I had noticed before. The drivers seat back is tilted farther back than the passenger seat. I don't know how the mechanism on the backs is suppose to work. It looks like the backs tilt whenever the seats slide back and forth, Attached is a pic of my seats installed. I have a spacer under the rear runners on the drivers side to try and take up some of the tilt. No matter where the seat is the back leans to much for my preference. Any thoughts?
Everyone is shying away from this and I'm not sure I can help other than a bent seat. I note the seats are not of the reclining variety.
Out of interest some S Types had this configuration of seat fitted. Are yours the original seats other than upholstery pattern? The S Type armrest could easily be covered up by a pro & the seat reprofiled.
Quote:
"Each seat was mounted on a unique fore-and-aft adjustment mechanism. Instead of the conventional sliding runners, this used swinging links that lowered the front of the cushion and raised the rear as the seat was moved forwards, and vice versa."
credit James Taylor
Whether later 340's saw this mechanism on their bucket seats I don't know either. Another possibility.

I can't help much as mine are recliners. I have seen Mk2 and/or S type seats with the back rest bent. I think someone remarked on a case in relation to pictures of the interior of an S type recently. It's surprising they can suffer such damage as they weigh a 'ton.'
I have only seen one car so equipped in Thailand of all places. Taylor does not describe it well. It still has slotted floor runners but includes swinging links that lowered the front of the cushion and raised the rear as the seat was moved forwards, and vice versa.

that would explain it...but mean that the seat backs will only line up when the seats are set at the same distance from the toeboards. and THAT will not due at all for the many compulsives out there (you know who you are) that must orient all their strings beans side-by-side, on their plate, before eating them.
Yes Indeed Huey ~ You are spot on. ~ Why I started with bent seat unless something has gone cuckoo in the mechanism. Worn clevis pin etc. It is the most used seat in the car.
I should add a wink ~ ~ for the **** which I'm inclined to be as a typical Virgo.

That driver's seat back frame has been bent. The passenger side looks correct.
I have seen this sort of bent or damaged seat on other cars owned by large persons.
