Default 64 MK2 front seat armrest/console

I fully appreciate that not everyone will like my continued modification of Jaguar's original MK2 design, but for those who don't mind, this was my weekend project. Of course, one day the beige arm cushion, the grey seats and the red heater pipe cover will all be reupholstered in the same color leather!

Dimensions and more details may be found here:

looks like the Series 3 XJ-6 center console section between the seats.

I have a complete 1986 XJ-S center console, front to back if you want to adapt it.

I love all the cool stuff you are doing to your car. Might not adapt it in the same way, but definitely gets me thinking of “a better way”. So thanks for all the ideas, and keep them coming!

Jose,
I think I am about done, but do you have a couple of photos of the XJS console?

Thanks, Chuck. I have to “kill” the ideas soon, otherwise I will never finish this thing. Working on new panels for the boot now. Photos before long!

Lin - the armrest console looks a little high - make sure it doesn't interfere with shifting. Regards.

Thanks, Doug.
I am going to try it out for a little while before I finalize the design. I am thinking about dropping it about an inch.

Lin, here's the first Mark 2 we did - I think that was an XJ6 arm rest but I'm not certain. No interference with the shifter!

I jusr saw your reply, I'll post photos tomorrow.

there is a firm in Australia who uses XJ-6 and XJ-S center consoles in their MK-2 remanufacturing. They do an incredible job.

Lin,
here's the console:

the leather on the armrest top is worn out, the rest of the leather is good, only needs recoloring. yes it is all leather-covered, no ambla. The stain on each side is from the seat belt receiver, just a stain, no wear.

Thanks, Jose.
I am sure that it could be adapted, but I prefer the look of the original radio/speaker grille mounting.

Just want to send along a “thank you” to Doug Dooren. Doug offered that my arm rest/console was too high. Yesterday I reduced the height of the box by 1-1/2” and it made a big positive difference in appearance and function. I thought the room to operate the shift lever was OK before, but it is now much better. So, “thank you” Doug for saying something, otherwise I may have just moved on to the next task!
