Default Diff colour

Hi. I am rebuilding the irs of my 1967 3.8s. I repianted the diff red as this was the original colour I believe. Was the dust cover also painted red or black?

I was wondering about the proper color when I had mine out. It was black outside but inside red. I have not been inside my motor yet, so I didnt know that was painted too. But I had wondered if the outside was supposed to be red. That part of my car *didnt appear* to have been molested like so many other areas have so I assumed that it was supposed to be black and made it so again. It also occurs to me that with all the other differences in the CKD cars, perhaps those diffs were red outside. Just muddying the waters, sorry.

Thanks for the reply. Seems the s-type was red with the cover black.

On my 3.4s it was definitely red with a black cover as per the attached photos.

One of the greatest mysteries in all of Jaguar-dom!!! What color should the differential be painted?? I struggled with this on my E-Type years ago (it's now the Glyptal red-orange color) and my Mk2 (it's now black). All I know is that it should not be blue, green or chromed.

It would certainly be a waste of chrome.
