Default Headlight flasher

I’ve had electric power steering fitted and the horn wiring cannot be reused. I’m trying to rewire the horn through a relay energised from the live side of the headlight flasher stalk without success. The relay won’t switch. Is there a relay in the flasher wiring somewhere from standard? I can’t see one on the wiring diagram. Cheers, Jerry.

As standard, our cars had no relays. Later cars had a relay in the horn circuit, but I don't think there were any others. I don't see why the arrangement that you've described doesn't work. I guess the obvious question is does the flasher stalk work? The best thing to do is work carefully through the circuit to find the point that doesn't go live when you pull on the stalk.

I've just remembered that the horn operates by a switch in the ground line, while the lights are switched in the live line. I guess you have taken that into account in your circuit modification.

Later cars do have a relay. One side of the relay is hot while the other side of the coil is grounded through the steering wheel horn. Sound like you need to find something that will switch to ground.

Default Opposite logic

On my -64 S the horn-ring grounds the horn-relay (my car is converted to neg.gnd), while the flasher-arm leads a "+" directly to the high-beam lamps. Opposite logic.
