Default History on 1962 Jaguar MKII

Hey there,
I'm I'm new to this forum, so thank you. I am looking at purchasing a 1962 Jaguar MK2, and would like to know a little bit more of the history of the car. The person I may be purchasing it from said that the car was originally a race car, but he did not have any documentation, or remembered what the racers name was. It is a right hand driver, and was originally overseas. It then came to the US after someone had purchased it, and has been here since.
I have attached a picture of the number plate that I found inside the engine bay. Wanted to see if there were any websites out there that I could use to get more information? Thanks a lot for the help. Joe.

These people will know: -
https://www.jaguarheritage.com/
They also issue heritage certificates for a fee.
The Mark 2 is well described in Wikipedia: -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar...%203.8%20litre.
The Mark 2 was a really excellent re-hash of the original saloon of 1955, now called the Mark 1, but was never sold as that by Jaguar, it was the 2.4 saloon, or the 3.4 saloon. The Mark 2 added the 3.8 litre engine to the line-up, plus disc brakes all round.

Thank you for the quick response! I will give them a try.

The best place to get the original info is Jaguar Heritage. But the owner needs to request it and it cost $50. They will confirm the car #, engine #, trans # and body #. They may tell you the original dealer and first owner. But don't count on it.

The next place is the Saloondata.com Which was designed by Roger Los and vehicles mainly added to it by Paul. They would appreciate a donations to help maintain the site. I looked and this car is not listed there.

What I can tell you from Car # (VIN) is that its a 4778th RHD MKII with a manual trans and overdrive. From its age it should be a moss box gearbox (non-syncro first gear).

I hope this helps.

I doubt if the car was factory race car from the engine number. LB 4348-8. The last digit signifies the engine compression ratio which could be from 7 to 9. A race engine would have been fitted with 9 to 1 compression pistons unless the engine was then modified after purchase for racing. An 8 to 1 compression engine would have been a standard road car engine in the UK and the majority of 9:1 ratio engines were in the exported cars mainly to the USA.
If the car has been raced and modified I would love to know what the modifications are with pictures please?
